Why did I almost pass out today? |
I am currently enrolled in a basketball program. The beginning of the workout this morning was just some running and stretches. We did some stationary bike work first and then we ran. In the middle of the running i felt like I was about to pass out and I almost got sick. I woke up late and didn't have time to eat breakfast. Did I feel this way because I didn't eat or am I just out of shape? What should I eat for breakfast before these workouts so that this doesn't happen? Yes, you felt faint due to the fact that you did not eat breakfast. The word "breakfast" comes from the two words "break" which means "stop" and "fast" which means "go without food". So breakfast means to "stop going without food". Your body went without food all night (more than 8 hours, probably) and all morning. You are a teenager and still growing, you need to eat every morning for overall good health, let alone for basketball. A good breakfast should include a serving or two of FRESH FRUIT, a serving of STARCH (toast or oatmeal, etc.) and if you eat PROTEIN, try some lean turkey sausage, and some DAIRY (yogurt or milk). Give your body the help it needs....you are in charge of it from now on. Be good to yourself. because u didnt eat and if u didnt drink then thats prolly why its probably not because ur "out of shape" its probably because of eating. It's never good to eat less than two hours before a serious work out but it's ok to snack on something: power bars, energy drinks etc... You may have felt that way because of low blood sugar or maybe poor diet. I'm a runner and have learned that slice of bread with penut butter right before a work out does the job. well did you eat yesterday? the day befor that? if you did then thats a natural thing i guess, eat breakfast everyday or not at all, dont eat breakfast today then suddenly stop 2morrow. for breakfast you shoud have protein, fiber, and vitamins (not the dosage) yea... WHEATIES! Try drinking more water, and if that doesnt work you might be anemic and need iron supplements. That happened because you did not eat anything before exercising. Anything can be a good breakfast, as long as it is food! My guess is that in addition to not eating, you also didn't drink anything either. If you weren't well hydrated to begin with, and then you went running and sweating a lot on the excercise bike, you most likely became dehydrated, which can lead to nausea and light-headedness. In severe cases of dehydration, you can pass out or have other ill effects. If you DID drink water and were hydrated enough, then I would say you should get checked out by your Dr. You may be coming down with the flu, or have some underlying disorder (circulatory, diabetes, etc) but since this has never happened to you before, I think that possibility is nil. You were most likely dehydrated (did you drink alcohol the night before??), and simply haveing lots to drink before practice should eliminate another episode like this. |
