Strained Hip Flexor and frustrated!!!?



I have a strained hip flexor and was wondering how long of healing time there is for this...?
I strained my hip flexor running 2 weeks ago. My psoras (sp??) muscle is sore also, and very tense.
I had my hip adjusted at a chiropractor, and it helped, but my psoras muscle is still very sore in my back, and my hip aches when I'm not doing anything, and is sore walking, getting into a car, etc.

Then, three days ago I nearly slipped in the shower, and caught my balance but really wrenched my hip in the process. I feel like as far as pain, i've gone backwards about a week or so.

I'm frustrated and wondering a couple of things:

1. How long is typical healing time for this?

2. What can I do to exercise for now? (I'm going crazy not running...) Is a stationary bike ok?

Anyone with experience in this area or medical background/training, please help! Thank you!!!

First you should not be seeing a chiropractor for a muscle strain! Muscle strains take 4-6 weeks to heal providing you do not have a re-injury in that time...if you do then you are back at day 1 of healing. In that time you can help the muscle to heal by doing some gentle stretching of the muscle on a daily basis, place an ice bag directly on the skin over the area that hurts for 15 mins (if you can, the psoas muscle is deep in your abdomen). You will start to feel improvement in about 3 wks but its important to know that the muscle is not completely healed and you need to wait minimum of 4 wks before going back to any strenuous activity such as running. If you continue to have problems after 6 wks then go see a doctor and get a referral for physical therapy. Source(s): sports medicine healthcare professional
You should have started massage therapy when you first hurt the hip flexor. Chiropratic is good, but not on its own. You also need to keep a rigid stretching routine. Cycling may or may not help, but probably won't hurt. the way to find out is to go for a short ride at a moderate pace, and see if anything hurts by the next day.

The best thing to do is to go to a sports therapy center, that offers massage and strength therapy. If you go to a doctor, he's going to send you to a rehab center for sedentary people who twisted their ankle looking for the TV remote. You need to insist you get _sports_ therapy.

Also, I strongly suggest yoga until it gets sorted out, with a regular sports (deep tissue) massage.
Treatment right away is not necessarily a bad thing just as long as the treatment is correct. For a strain of a muscle, you need to rest, ice and perform gentle stretching. Improper treatment in the early stages of healing can cause delays in the healing process. Depending on several factors, the muscle will heal in 4-6 wks. If it was the tendon that was injured it will take longer because tendons do not have as good a blood supply as do muscles. Contrary to what others answering have said massage is not the cure all. Massage to early in the healing process can cause more damage then help by continuing the inflammatory process. If you are continuing to have pain I would suggest that you see a physical therapist (PT) in your area. Depending on your state you may or may not need a physician referral.
