Two Questions about: Fiber and rate of weight loss? |
*1) Why is it that they say eating a lot of fiber can help you lose weight? What does fiber do for your body that helps you lose weight? *2) I am 5' 6" and 145 (thats about 23-24 BMI) and I turn 18 pretty soon. If I eat about 1300-1500 calories a day, then for how long ( time wise) would i need to workout everyday to lose 2lbs a week for the next 6 weeks ? I walk and have a stationary bike. Plz help me and Thanks in Advance Fiber helps you lose weight by a couple of ways. First, it fills you up and keeps you full longer, so you're less likely to eat as much. Second, it actually keeps some calories from being absorbed. If you eat the recommended 30 g of fiber a day, you'll absorb about 120 calories less than you would if you didn't eat that much fiber. For working out, in order to lose 2 pounds a week, you need to burn 1000 calories more than you consume every day. So, I'm not sure what your resting metabolic rate is, but it's probably somewhere between 1300 and 1700 calories a day (what you'll burn without doing any exercise at all). So, if you're eating 1400 to 1800 calories, you're basically covering just your metabolic needs. So, you need to burn 800-1000 calories doing other things. Walking around and just kind of functioning will burn a few hundred, unless you're extremely sedentary, so shoot for about 500-600 calories during your workouts. You can jog for an hour and burn about that much. The generic rule for cardio is that you burn about 100 calories every 10 minutes. I'd recommend doing 30 minutes of cardio and 30-40 minutes of weight lifting. That'll make you lose weight faster. Good luck. 1. because fiber helps regulate your digestive system and it makes the food lower glycemic, which means it doesnt spike your blood sugar, which means that it's not as easy to gain weight. Also i heard somewhere that for every gram of fiber, it flushes out 7-10 calories up to 60 grams of fiber (after that, it's bad for you) 2. It depends on the type of exercise. Swimming and rollerblading are some of the best exercises (I believe up to 500 an hour if done continuously) Considering that a completely sedentary person burns 1200 calories a day, probably an hour of exercise would be good (since you want to create a 3200 calorie deficit twice a week) i started eating apples and i find the fiber makes me go to bathroom lol. guess that helps with the weight loss. Eating Fibre will hep you to feel fuller fot longer as it takes a while to pass through the digestive tract. incidentally eating plenty of fibre also helps to protect tou against intestinal and bowel disease such as cancer and diverticulitis and helps prevent constipation which can cause piles. I would have thought that your weight was pretty healthy for your height. I would think if you stick to 1500 cals per day and exercise for half hour a day you should lose your 2lb. |
