Am I gaining muscle weight or is this not working?

I'm 31, and I had never worked out in my life. I'm 5'9 and weigh 165 lbs. I have been exercising regularly for almost 4 months now. I do 30 minutes of cardio (combination of treadmill, elliptical, and stationary bike) 5 days a week. I do 30 minutes of weight resistance training 3 days a week (using various weight machines). I eat the same as I did before (low sugar, no added fats, whole grains only, no beef, fish/chicken/turkey only, lots of fruit and veggies, no dairy -yogurt only, lots of tofu). I make most of my own food at home, I haven't bought a loaf of white bread in years or a stick of butter or margarine. I don't drink soda, alcohol, or juices of any kind. I estimate that I eat anywhere from 1500-2000 calories a day, depending on what's going on. Now that I added exercise to my regime, I was expecting some weight loss (I would like to shed about 10 lbs). I have actually gained 2 lbs, and I am the same clothing size (I'm a size 10, 36C bra). What am I doing wrong?

ok nutritionists say you should eat 2-3 light dairy products a day and 3-4 if female. and at least 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day also.

it can be genetics to why you have not lost weight. or your thyroid, metabolism, or any other health issue. maybe consult with your doctor for your questions.

make sure you are going at a high enough rate when you exercise and try to not have any breaks between switching equipment.

dont weigh yourself everyday. but keep the time consistent. if you go on the scale at 7 in the morning dont go at 3 in the afternoon, it will be different.

you seem to be healthy, maybe this is your body's healthy size?

good luck and dont give up Source(s): started a fitness program a few weeks ago.
You should NEVER weigh yourself when you are weight training. I too did the very same thing. I asked a weight trainer why I was gaining weight instead of losing and his reply was "Muscle weighs MORE then fat". I was a size 12 and now am a 5-6. I weigh 135 lbs and am 5'5" tall. I am solid muscle with a six pack. So please just go by how your clothes feel on you. Always drinks lots of water too. Water flushes the body of impurities. Another thing, muscles is made up of mostly water so drink away, don't fret and keep up the good work.
well muscle weights more than fat , so i think you should stop with lifting weight and go on some tipe of diet to lose those 10 lbs .
when you lose it go back to weight lifting ...
you are working out TOO much. your body has gotten used to what you do, and therefore stays at that weight. Stop the 5 days of cardio. Make it every other day, and try walking as exercise instead of the gym. Walking up even the smallest hill will give you a cardio workout.

Also, the trick to losing weight is to use up more calories than you take in. But you seem to need a little more protein as well. Try walking every other day, and weight resistance the 2 other days. Vary your routine -- where you walk, etc, and your weights -- and you will trick your body into working WITH you, not against you. And by the way, take at least 1 day where you do nothing, so your muscles have a chance to heal.
