Excercises to get rid of my beer gut ? |
I have been going to the gym two or three days a week doing set classes and stationary bikes mostly. My arms and legs are fine, I need to work more on my gut more then anything else. Are crunches my best bet, or are there other things I should be doing to achieve the results I want? I don't care if I end up with a 6 pack, but I need to get rid of the keg! You can do crunches and sit ups until the cows come home but you won't see the results unless you burn off the fat covering your abs. You need to examine your diet. Find a calorie calculator online. This will get you the number of calories you need in a day to maintain the weight you are at. Cut that number by 500 calories. THese calories should be 30% proteins 50% carbs and 20% fats. Then get on a more intense workout routine. Here is a good one: Day one: Upper Body Day two: Cardio Day three: Lower Body Day four: Cardio Day Five: Upper Body Day Six: Lower Body Day Seven: Off Then start over with lower body being on day one. Pick two different exercises for each body part. Upper Body: Back, Shoulders, Triceps, Biceps, Chest. Lower Body: Quads, hamstrings, calves. Do 4 sets of 12,10,8,6 reps for each exercise. You will need weight resistant training to lose fat fast. Not just cardio. Give this a shot and monitor your results. Okay, if the beer gut is actually because of that (beer), have you quit drinking? If not, that's where to start. When I was with my ex, we went out to the bar frequently, too frequently, it was the only way we could stand being around each other. Towards the beginning of the end, when I started pulling away and eventuallly left him, I gave up beer. I honest to God lost 50 lbs. in 3 months. I personally hate stationary bikes. Try the treadmills or the Precor machines(they have the feet that slide back and forth). They burn a lot more calories. Yes working out the abs will help. Because once you start working them out they will begin to contract and even though you may not have lost any weight, the contraction will cause you to lose inches (just a few) off your gut. Drink a lot more water. Lay off soda and fruit drinks and anything with sugar. And you won't lose any fat off your gut if you don't eat healthy. You have to do both. Cut back the calories and sugar. Depending on how big your gut is....it could take sometime. But just stay with it........and no beer! You cannot target weight loss. You can eat healthy, exercise, and have a healthier lifestyle. All the sit-ups in the world will just firm that puppy up & make it protrude a bit more. Weight loss through diet and exercise are really your only options to get rid of the gut. If you belly is hard and round try cutting back on salt for a day or two. It helps cut down on the bloated look. Keep exercising. Beer can be part of a healthy diet. Try balancing it by cutting back on bread and pasta Crunches are great in that they firm up the muscles around the gut. But keep in mind that the fat from the beer gut is separate from the abdominal muscles that surround the gut. In other words, you can do all the crunches you want, and get a firm stomach, but if you don鈥檛 eat healthier, you鈥檒l still have a beer gut. I don鈥檛 know how often you drink, but if you drink one less beer per drinking session, within a few months you will lose weight, given no other changes in your diet and exercise routine. Good luck! If you are drinking beer, by quitting that and replacing with water you will lose 5lbs almost immediately (1-2 weeks). Nothing replaces proper diet and exercise. The standard seems to be 30 minutes of vigorous cardio 3-4 times/wk and burning more calories than you consume. The hardest place for a man to lose is the waistline. Gut and handles. It can be done but it takes a serious commitment. Good luck! I've found that no matter how much I didn't want to start, once I started, I couldn't imagine that I didn't want to start! It made me feel so good! |
