Cardio question?

I've never really enjoyed running so I went to the next best thing for cardio.. the cycle. I goto the gym and work out on the stationary bikes with the cardio setting on. I can feel that I'm definitely getting a workout and have been doing it for 4-5 months now. My question is, will the cycle help my endurance/ease of running when I switch to running? Will cycling help me be a better runner in any way?

it will increase your stamina and endurance
cardio is cardio, however different exercises require different muscles. Therefore it will still take time to adjust to a different exercise but the transition will be much quicker.
Yes, being in great cycling shape will definitely give you a headstart when you start getting into running. However, you'll find that the two exercises work different muscles, so you may need to adjust the type of stretches you do. Also, running is high-impact and cycling is low-impact, which means you may also end up with more injuries as the result of switching to running (knee, foot, ankle injuries, mostly). If you don't enjoy running, though, and DO enjoy cycling -- why switch? Both are excellent for your heart, but cycling is actually much better for your body, as it helps protect your joints from the same kind of stress that running will put on them (I've never met a runner who is in their 40's and who doesn't have persistent foot, knee, ankle, or hip pain as a result of all those years of pounding the pavement).

Cycling's a GREAT form of exercise -- I say stick with that!

cycling doesnt really build your calves. Ive been biking for a while and my quads and hamstrings are huge but my calves are tiny. Im trying to build my calves now.
Not really. Cycling and running are very different. Although you have built some fitness cycling, running is a weight bearing exercise (you've got to carry your own bodyweight) that impacts on your joints much more.
You may have the physical endurance to bring your heart rate up and maintain up there, but you are not used to the mechanics of running.
It is going to hurt a fair bit at the beginning but you'll be allright after a few sessions.
