Leg Exercises?

Okay, recently I injured my ankle which has left me UNABLE to run for the past week and a half. I decided to replicate exercises that I have done on machines in the gym. So, I tied 8 pound weights to each of my ankles, laid down on the floor, and did 50 leg lifts on each leg(I also did several other leg exercises with the weights, 50 reps each). During and after doing these, my legs were in pain so I figured that I may have done something right. This morning however, my legs feel as if there was no exercise done at all! I'm concerned because I need to get back into shape for cross- country camp that starts in a couple of weeks. I've tried biking but received few positive results(stationary bikes can get boring too), and swimming is too inconvient. Well, I guess my first problem is trying to find GREAT exercises for my legs that will quickly put them back into shape without adding any more injury to my already injured ankle. Please, share your experience. Any suggestions are appreciated

First, just because an excersize doesn't feel like you did anything... it can still work. There is a HUGE difference in running and muscle building and the results will not be the same. I would suggest you keep building muscle regardless of whether your ankle is running-worthy because muscle building is a very healthy way to tone yourself and help you get more endurance.

Go to a gym and use the leg press and other leg machines. On the side/top of the machines there are instructions or you can watch/ask someone on how to to use the machines. For your first time, start easy and do a lot of reps (12-20) If you feel like going higher on your next visit you can and do less reps.

Also, maybe do some lunges with or without weights. These are really nice excersizes that I feel work a lot of my body. And these don't require you to go to the gym. You may also do some squat-jumps to help your endurance. You squat and then jump as high as you can, using your arms to repel your body forward.

Wish you luck!
playin football really helps alot , mainly because alot of its running but your working ur thigh muscles when your kicking the ball , and about the staionary bikes yes i know they can get boring just like the tredmill but listenin to some music while ur on it or watch t.v , if its at a gym then buy an MP3 player and take tht to listen to sum music , it makes time pass quicker and its not as boring lol

good luck
I really don't know about leg exercises that focus on endurance rather than strength, but I would imagine that if you don't feel as though your getting enough of a workout from leg lifts and squats, you should increase the number that you are doing. Since you are a runner it will probably take a lot of exercise for you to feel anything like soreness from a workout. Of course, just because your legs aren't sore or tired doesn't mean you didn't get a workout. Just keep at it and increase reps and weight if you are not satisfied with the intensity of your workout. You could also just ride a real bike.
