Can you burn 1,000 calories on a stationary?

exercise bike? If you excercise for 40 minutes?

It'll take a while! On average a person will burn between 400 & 600 kcal during a 1 hour aerobic class. You do the math. The calories you burn will depend greatly on your metabolism, intensity of effort, genetics, your gender and body compostion, to name a few variables. The more lean (muscle) you have, the faster your resting metabolic rate. The more muscle you have, the more fuel (calories) it takes. Also, the method you choose to do your aerobic exercise is important. A stationary bike only really stresses the lower half of your body. That's good in that the largest muscles in the body are in the legs. However, activity that involves the total body is prefered, an elliptical as maachines go is a good example. You'd have to pedal pretty fast....
For 40 minutes, no you cannot burn that many unless you pedal 100 mph and have the resistance set high. Good chance you will pass out before you burn 1000. 300 is more realistic.
