About how many calories...?


About how many calories does a healthy person eat per day? I am eating a very healthy diet (I also drink plenty of water and stop eating before 6). I am on the stationary bike every day for 35 minutes, and I also use dumbells. I have not been able to lose weight this way at all. I have an injury and this prevents me from walking much, that is why I bought a stationary bike. I want to find out why I'm not losing weight. Maybe I am not riding the bike long enough and I am not burning enough calories (afterall, I am not walking since I can't due to being injured...)...So, in short, I'm wondering how many calories a healthy person eats per day? That way, I can see if I'm not burning enough calories...On the bike, I am burning about 600 calories per day (I have no resistence, since I can't have any while I'm injured...)...

oops, I guess the weights I am lifting are not called dumbells, they are just 3-pound weights. But I use them religiously and do every type of lifting imaginable with them with my arms...

your calories needed will depend on how much you weigh. figure if you are under 200 lbs about 1500-1800 per day is fine - over 200 you will probably need 1800-2200. try to split your meals into 5 small meals per day instead of 3 big meals. It is not so much what you eat but more the amount you eat and the time you eat it. Eat breakfast in the AM, this will kick-start your metabolism. eat a small snack (piece of fruit or yougart or some almonds or nuts.) before lunch. Try to have a salad at lunch - another small snack between lunch and diner and then a decent dinner. I try not to eat too much for diner as I am usually home for the night after diner and don't burn too many calories.

I have just started an exercise routine and a new diet just about 3 weeks ago and already people are noticing. I pretty much ride the stationary bike for 20 minutes in the AM as soon as i get up. It only is about 5 miles because I use a program on the bike that increases the resistance. Special K for breakfast - yougurt (danon light & fit vanilla) for snack. sandwich and water for lunch. fruit or non-fat fudgeicle for snack b4 diner, then usually a steak and veggie or chix & veggie for dinner.

Being that you are not able to run or do much else I would recommend that you ride the bike until you cant ride it anymore - You will not lose any weight if you do not raise your heartrate and really sweat

The average person has a caloric need of about 15 times their own body weight. So, if you weigh about 160 pounds, your caloric needs would be about 2400 calories. All calories are not equal. When they come from candy, soda pop and other highly refined foods, they are empty calories which turn to fat much quicker than nutrient dense calories. If you are having trouble losing weight, it might be the diet that you are on. Diets don't work. read about it here:

it takes time for you to lose weight. nothing happens right away.
just keep on doing it, and you will se results.

People usually eat about 1,600 calories a day.

At LEAST 1200, but it should actually be more like 2000 for you, especially since you are active.
