I lost 60 pounds and stopped. How do I get my metabolism working again?

I'm male, 25, 6'0". About a year ago I weighed 280 pounds after years and years of sedentary living and not eating well. Going by what worked for me a couple of times in my teens, I just started by reducing my portions and lost 20 pounds easy. I stayed at around 260 for a while, then I reduced my intake more and did regular jogging and some light weightlifting, and lost 40 pounds within the first few months of this year. But for maybe three months now I've been stuck at 220.

I'm aware that my body has probably responded to the very low calorie diet by severely reducing what it burns. So in the past few months I've switched to eating between 4-6 small meals a day, along with interval weight training and aerobics (1 mile jog or 20 min on a stationary bike) on alternate mornings except Sunday (my day off exercise.)

Typical meals would now be a spicy omelette with a bowl of shredded wheat for breakfast, some fruit (bananas, apples), Jello pudding, or a high protein Slim-Fast shake for midmeals, a ham & roast beef sandwich for lunch. Dinner might be part of the problem, because I still like to have average American-sized portions at dinner (corn on the cob, steak, pork chops, some veggies on the side.) Rigid monitoring of proteins vs. carbs and such didn't look palatable to me, so I avoided it. I eat fast food about once a week.

I try to drink ten cups of water a day, but I don't always do it. I never smoke, don't drink alcohol more than about once a month, and get regular sleep.

I'm not gaining anything, and I've noticed an increase in strength and feel better in general. It's just that I'm keeping a solid 220 and a stubborn belly. My goal is to lose another 40-50 pounds (that would put me in the BMI 'normal' category) and build a lean muscle mass. I'm just concerned that I haven't lost as much as a pound in about three months.

I suppose I could ditch fast food altogether and put more vegetables into my diet. I also need to find a good ab workout I can do; I can only get in a few crunches before failure, so I've been ignoring it.

Any more ideas on how to put my body back up to burning calories like it did before?

yea i would say..DEFINITELY cut out the fast food..a good way to make all of your exercise as effective as it was in the beginning is to change up your routine a lot.instead of going for a jog everyday..jog maybe 3 or 4 times a week..and the others days..maybe go bike riding/cycling...go swimming..play a sport..hiking..the same routine is gonna work the same muscles and eventually your body is gonna get used to it..

alsoo..knowing your blood type might helpp..different foods have different chemicals..and it makes sense that they would react differently to different blood types
for example..type o..like myself..wen trying to lose wieght..should have veryyyyy little grains..wheat..its very hard trust me..but i do realize a change..i have much more energy
other types have different ways of eating..here so i don't end up writing a novel..lemme find something..

You should give this product a shot. It's called Acai Berry and it's new on the market, but already endorsed by people like Oprah! I just ordered a free 14-day trial from this site.. do it today! you won't regret it!

I would lose as much processed food as possible (including fast food), continue eating multiple small meals each day (including dinner), and increase your cardio.

Ps. GOOD FOR YOU for how far you've come so far!!!! :-D

take a heavy breakfast little light lunch and the lightest meal of your day should ideally be dinner...i had a lot of belly fat problem myself and now i am fit and in perfect shape...
i used to walk everyday morning and evening an hour each and drank 2 glasses of warm water mixed with lemon juice and honey early in the morning after waking up ...warm water helps in dissolving body fat..
i got positive results by doing that...hope it helps you too...
