When should I eat to boost metabolism before working out? |
I ride a stationary bike for 26 miles every morning. When I get up, I usually drink some diet coke and then hop right on before eating, but I usually eat immediately after. Would it be better for me to eat beforehand or is eating after better to burn more calories? An hour or so before you begin exercise try eating foods that contain a balance 1/2 carbs, 1/4 protein, and 1/4 fat. This should provide a readily sustained energy for you long rides. There is also some support for the use of glutamine, an amino acid, which helps with muscular endurance and post-exercise muscle soreness. Eating a balanced diet and continuing a healthy lifestyle will turn your body into a calorie burning machine. Also, eat a similar type meal within 1-1 1/2 hours following exercise. It's better to eat after a workout because it speeds up your metabolism. Eating something light before exercising is fine but too much can make you feel uncomfortable while you use your bike. Eat some carbs and some protein after exercising. Don't drink diet coke before working out stick to water it's way better for you. congrats on the 26 miles evry morning!!! you should eat before you work out to increase your metabolism, if you only drink a diet coke before u work out, your metabolism wont increase at all. try a smoothie and put some protien powder in it. this will increase ur metabolism and give you a much healthier start to your morning Eating BEFORE you work out makes your body burn calories better. Before I work out... I usually at LEAST drink a glass of juice (100-150 calories) to get my furnace burnin!! |
