Is brisk walking a good exercise?


I've been doing 40 minutes of stationary biking a day.I've gotten bored with it though and want to switch up my workout a little bit.I've been doing 40 minutes of brisk walking daily instead.Is that just as good as stationary biking?

oh ya it is better because the biking cannot simulate the turn hill and bumps and surfaces as a stationary bike can and also it is fun you can walk with friends walk to you fav store and back home and other stuff like that

I would imagine the bike would get your heart rate up a bit more, or at least could get it up more than walking can. Even a brisk pace isn't going to do a whole lot for you in 40 minutes.

If that's all the time you've got, I recommend a walk/jog: Regardless of your level of fitness, begin with a walk, and when you've warmed up, break out a slow jog. Don't stress your body or test your endurance; I personally stop jogging not long after breathing becomes difficult (your heart rate will have been up a few minutes by then) and walk again until everything is back to normal, then repeat.

It is a far better workout than walking alone, and far easier on your body than regular jogging, which often can do more harm than good.

Don't give up on biking, either. Rotate your exercise activities to keep it interesting. Maybe throw yoga into the mix, as well! You'll want to be able to tie your shoes when you're 70, yea?
