Can you make a stationary bike out of a real bike? |
I was just wondering because I like to bike, but there is no place around where I live to do so. Also, I would rather not buy a stationary bike. Thery are called indoor trainers. You can find them at bike shops and many on-line store like nashbar.com for example. They run from about $100 to $300+. Most work pretty well. Fluid and mag resistance are the best. Yes there is an adapter. I have seen them in catalogs, but I don't remember which one. yup! cyclists use them. any pro shop should sell them they're called rollers. Yes, there is a contraption that lifts the back wheel off the ground. They are sold at cyclists shops. Yup, you can plug your bike into it and take it out pretty fast. If you are going to get a trainer and your rear wheel has a quick release, make sure that you get a stainless steel skewer. Most trainers come with one, but make sure either way. With a trainer, that skewer supports the bike in addition to holding the wheel in place. Also, you may want to get a really cheap slick tire and put it on the rear. Some trainers wear tires quickly. If that's going to happen, let it be on some $10 tire instead of your prime and expensive rubber. A good inexpensive trainer is CycleOps. Used on any type of bike and comes with the replacement skewer. The most inexpensive CycleOps trainer is a Mag. If you have deeper pockets and want a better feel and even remote (handle bar mounted control) resistance control, then shop the top of the line fluid resistance models. |
