So I'm getting accustomed to riding my sport bike - should I ride it to work? |
Or do you think it's just too dangerous. I'm trying to make up my mind. I might be safer in my car. With the gas prices I would ride it. Safety should not really be an issue, if it is then leave the bike at home as you will be too preoccupied with not getting into an accident that you probably will get into an accident. If safety is your #1 concern & priority (and/or you are not confident in you ability to drive/ride), just stay at home or if you must, take the bus. People in cars kill many thousands every year so taking a car is likely to add more danger to the road. If you know how to ride a motorycle properly in traffic, and that means knowing how to ride between cars to avoid the most common rear end collision, you will get to work faster, more awake, more economically, and as less of a danger to other people, and, done properly, even less likely to get in a collision. Stop being a mommies boy, afraid of the ride, and get on your bike! Any other decision will doom you to a life of a scardie girlie boy, now all so common in the USA. Take the car for now. Yes. Ride the bike to work. I road to work today in a light mist in about low 60's or high 50's degrees F. It is still cloudy, the road was a little wet otherwise navigable and the ride was good. If dressing is a problem, just tell him to wear some kind of chaps that he can take off. You can easily wear a suit to work, ride a motorcycle, and still look proper/good in the office. It depends. Even if there weren't other reasons not to, I wouldn't want to ride mine to work (any type of bike that is) because I work downtown. Increased traffic, potholes, stupid pedestrians, people running late and putting on their makeup while driving. And that's just going to work. It's a nightmare getting out at the end of the day. obviously you're safer in your car, that's a no-brainer. but if you feel comfortable enough with the clutch to sit in stop-n-go traffic, and don't have to carry a briefcase/backpack, then i'd say go for it. you gotta try it sooner or later, right? but i would advise against it if you have to wear a heavy backpack. that **** starts to really hurt your neck/back on a crotch rocket. depends how you are supposed to dress at work. obviously if you are wearing a suit, you might want to take it easy. But other than that take it wherever you go, especially with the gas prices the way they are. save some money, you know? and yeah, itll always be dangerous, but its alot easier on your wallet. Plain and simple. If you have to ask, your not ready. It depends on if you feel confident & proficient enough. Be careful in city traffic - commuting cagers are distracted cagers. I see people eating breakfast, shaving or putting on makeup, reading the paper for chrissakes during the morning commute. waking up in the morning is dangerous. if you are comfortable riding and not just accustomed to it then do so. you should always ride safely and defensively My husband rides his sport bike to work all the time during the summer...it is a great way to reduce the gas bill and he feels it gets a better use out of it. Absolutely!! It's only as safe as you are aware of others on the road... I live in Memphis and I ride to work on pretty days. I'm lucky to have an employer that has reserved motorcycle spots. yes |
