Buying second hand motorbike things to check for excessive wear/ abuse?

Will be a sports bike 600 cc most likely R6 year 05/06/07. Is a price as low as 拢3500 suspicious?

Super thanks

By just look the bike over you will get a good idea of the history of the bike. Check the body over, look under the tail for black tire bits that build up after burnouts. Look over the body for damage, do the mirrors match, damaged anything. Take the bike out thru the gears to see if it runs good. Have fun with the new toy.

拢3500 is probably lower than you'd expect from a dealer, private sale for a 05 model is on the low side of right.

Check it hasn't been raced 鈥?giveaways are drilled and wired sump plugs, suspiciously pristine bodywork, chips on the rims where tyres have been replaced often. See it start from cold, tell the seller that if it is warmed up when you arrive you will turn round without bothering to look, look for blue(ish) smoke (some white smoke is usual on choke). If possible look around the garage, try to get an impression of the care lavished on the bike. Check for excessive play in the headstock if the bearings are on their way out it could indicate too many wheelies.

To check if it's been damaged or in a wreck, what I usually look for are all prominent external pieces. Look at the edges of levers, turn signals, exhaust end, foot pegs, engine casing. Imagine the bike on its side - what parts would be touching the ground? If you see some gouges or hard abrasions on those places, more importantly on ALL of those places especially on one side, it's been "laid over". There's nothing you can do if part of the frame has been tweaked as a result of a hard fall. If there's just some scratches on one or a few of those places, it could just have rubbed a wall where it's been parked.

The kids like to use those supersport bikes like the R6 to do stunts and tricks. Sport bikes can be mistreated. Cruisers, on the other hand, usually have pretty easy lives. Also, pay attention to the seller's behavior. If he's been good with his bike, his behavior shouldn't set up any red flags to you. How old is the owner, how many bikes has he owned before? Where does he like to ride? Does he ride with friends a lot (warning: Peer Pressure to ride stupidly)? How long has he owned the bike? Did he buy it new or used? Most times owners will be honest when asked about the bike's history. Not all the time, though.

Check the oil dipstick. If it's at the right level and it looks good, that's one quick indication of overall health.

I think you can get to know a bike pretty well at slow speeds. On the street, drive slow and listen to the brakes as you apply them. Stay in a low gear (first and second) and accelerate very slowly through its entire powerband, listen and feel.

A low price isn't necessarily suspicious, just as a high price doesn't guarantee a perfect bike. The seller may need money right now and wants to sell quickly. Don't let their situation affect you. Also, ride a few bikes of the same year/model type. You may get to know a model based on the examples of riding each one gives. One could be much better than the others.

In the USA $3500 would be do-able for like an 05. Look for suspicious leaks, signs of abuse, it must start easily and run smoothly from a cold engine. Don't forget to size up the seller, you want to buy from someone who was a little obsessive about maintenance and not too wild with the throttle and has all the paperwork in order. You want a bike that has been stored indoors. You are looking at fairly new bikes...they really should be cherry.
