Looking to buy a sports bike?

ok, so i am a new-be at this. i am interested in purchasing a used sports bike (looking to spend about 7k).

How many miles can a bike engine hold ? (what is considered old?)

Any recommendations ?!?

Thank you ...

I live in Southern California, and the new bikes i have looked at range from 10-13k

Oh here we go again, another perspective organ donor that has never ridden and wants to go out and get a sportsbike.

Everyday I answer this, before you even consider purchashing a bike take a MSF course, it might just save your life or even a limb.

WITH 7 GRAND U CAN BUY A BRAND NEW BIKE AT ANY BIKE SHOP JUST LOOK AROUND

look for a used 250cc Kawasaki Ninja and ride it for at least one season or two, then move up to the 600cc sport bikes as these are not for the beginners. and you will have to take a MSF course since you are under the age of 18 in order to get a motorcycle endorsement in the state of California

if you have the money now buy a bike you are
going to keep for a while. get one of the 600
class bikes they are all good. just take it easy
for a couple of months. for 7k you will find some
nice used bikes. save some for insurance.
make sure you bring somebody that knows
a little bit about bikes. check the whole bike out
and listen to it run. you should be able to go as high
as a 2006 .

You can get any sport bike you want in mint condition for 7K. The trick in finding a bike that has never been down or abused. Motorcycle engines can last a very long time as long as you properly maintain them. If you have any friends that have experience with motorcycles, ask for assistance, so you don't end up with a lemon.
Do you homework, run the vehicle identification number, check and ask a lot of questions. Look at the maintenance records. Look closely at the frame and bodywork for any signs of damage.
www.craigslist.com may be a good place to look and so is ebay. Never buy the first bike you see.

You can get a brand new Ninja 500 for less than that.

Police departments retire their motorcycles at 70,000 miles around here. But if you check Craigslist, you won't find many sportbikes with more than 40,000 miles on them.

...and, of course, since motorcycles kill their riders at about 1 per 25,000 miles (Los Angeles Times), then any motorcycle with more than 25,000 miles on it has beat the odds.

You might want to check out some bike on craigslist. You can often find good deals there.

As with any sales by owner, take a person familiar with bikes with you when you inspect the bike.
