Motorcycle Passenger?

So I love/hate to ride on the back of my fiance's motorcycle. He has a Yamaha 600 sport bike. Well, When I'm on the back I have to lean forward and put my hands around him and on the gas tank. It is probably the most uncomfortable position ever! I have to hold myself up the whole time so I don't squish him. When he stops hard, I have a hard time holding myself up. MY back hurts, my hands hurt, and my butt hurts. What am I doing wrong? Should it really be this uncomfortable?

well, i got my own bike, i wanted control.. but, i do still enjoy riding on the back with my b/f, we mesh well.

trick is to hold yourself up with your legs, use the leverage of the balls of your feet on the pegs, your knees on his hips, hold on with your knees so you dont slide forward into him, that take alot of the pressure off of your hands/arms.
also dont hunch your back, keep it straight.
practice that until its a habbit, you will be surprised at how much better you feel back there :)

its alot like riding a horse, if you have had experience doing that. hold on with your knees :)

glad i could help! i dont know how many sportbike passengers make the mistake of just letting thier legs sit there and not utilizing them :) Report It

Sport bikes are not very good for 2-up riding. Heck, they aren't even very comfortable for the driver. Tell your guy that it is time to get a cruiser if he wants you on the back...

I agree with remowlms. It's just plain uncomfortable. A cruiser with a backrest is the best for a passenger.

You answered your own question "600 SPORT bike". These bikes are not the best for two up riding. Now's your chance tell him to either get you a bike or trade his for a better one{ha ha}

Some ladies love riding on the back of a sport bike, but most hate it. Maybe he could get a used cruiser for when the two of you ride together and keep the 600 for solo rides.
Another option that would be even more fun; learn to ride and get your own bike, say a Shadow VLX 600.

You could try a product like this

Alternatively what you are doing is essentially correct, try one hand on the back of the tank and one on a grab rail, if he hasn't fitted one you should get him to fit one. The most uncomfortable looking thing to me is the position of the pillion pegs it might be possible to lower them. Your rider should also avoid hard-braking where possible.

I COMPETELY understand! My boyfriend has a Kawasaki Zx6r and yeah he hasn't really gotten down that he should stop sooner than he normally would so I don't slam into him. Funny thing is I find it too be way more comfortable if wear high heels, he picked me up from work one day and it was way more easier since I was hirer up. But normally I'm more comfortable if I stick my a$$ as far back as I can and I lean as forward and low as I can and I'll only focus on one side like I tend to look at the right side only. Adjust when you come to a stop light and when I hold him I don't grab his shirt hug his waiste and let the back of your hand rest against the tank so when he stops you can hold yourself up that way with least movement as possible. Just try to rest on him as much as possible only because the more you can be "apart" of him then the easier it is for him and on your body.

It's going to be uncomfortable but once you find a stance that feels good to you it'll be fine.

Since it appears your boyfriend doesn't know how to carry a passenger by accellerating, cornering and stopping gently, instead of hanging onto his waist, hang onto his chest hair if he even has any. He'll keep your comfort and security in mind after the first time he slaps on the brakes and you rip out two handfuls of hair. You can be assured from that point on that he'll be thinking of you.

I don't know how the young bucks can ride a sport bike any distance, let alone an old fart like me. Being crouched in the fetal position doesn't appear to be that comfortable. What you need is for him to get a Harley dresser, Gold Wing, Kawasaki Voyager or Yamaha Venture. You'll be able to set back, relax and enjoy the experience without each ride being akin to the Spanish Inquisition.

tell him to get a corbin gunfighter/lady seat, they have backrests available. then you can grab the handles under the seat, and lean back on the backrest...

problem solved...

Try getting your own bike instead and both of can have a blast of fun together

It is until you get used to it. But that is one of the reasons I wanted to get my own bike. Best decision I ever made!

> What am I doing wrong?

You're riding pillion on a sportbike. Pillion accomodations on sportbikes suck. Stop riding on the back of his bike and get your own. It's much more comfortable to be at the controls. Take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. Then get yourself a used small motorcycle (Ninja 250). Ride that around for six months, then sell it and get something bigger.

You'll need a full face helmet, with a real DOT sticker and Snell rating, if you don't have one already.

someone probably already said this. get your own!

Squish him till he buys a cruiser. Motorcycling is supposed to be enjoyable, not a test of endurance.

Sounds like you need to lose some weight. Only really fit, hot girl gymnasts should ride on the back of sportbikes.
