Is it normal for a Yamaha super-sport motorcycle ?

When the bike is on neutral and I press down to the 1st gear it makes a funny racket sound but only on first gear because on 2nd gear it shifts very smooth. Can you please help me?

I've only heard this happen when the clutch is not fully engaged. If it's a sharp crisp clack, that's normal. It's just slapping into gear. Going into first and coming out of first usually produces and clunk.

If it's a sloppy drawn out sounding rattling type noise then I'd have the clutch looked at.

A loose chain will make noise during take off. I assume you're talking about sitting still putting it in first. A non moving chain doesn't make noise.

It could be just the gears meshing together or it could be a mechanical problem.

clutch is out of adjustment or you are not pulling it in all the way.

check oil level, check clutch adjustment,
is it just a clunk as you put it into first ?? if so dont worry
its normal think about your engine sat ticking over you pull clutch in knock into first clutch & gear box now conected play in gear box & clutch taken up (clunk)
in other gears every thing is spining together

like the other answer said you could need a clutch adjustment ,once its moving you wont notice any sounds from it,but when you first put it in first gear your taking up the slack in the chain and that may be where your getting the noise from,sometimes you can also adjust the chain to get this out good luck with it.

it doesnt sound like the clutch because if it shifts the other gears good you should be alright, its probabably just the gears meshing in. dirtbikes do it often, and its probably just a little bit louder cuz its a street bike

it may be that your clutch is out of adjustment. i've also found that new riders sometimes hold the throttle open a little in neutral and try to put it in gear with the engine revving a little, it'll clunk then too, or if you're rolling backwards and try to put it in gear. a little bit of a clunk is ok but if the bike lurches and makes a lot of noise something is wrong.

i work at a motorcycle shop and I'm telling you even harley's make that sound putting it into gear. Trust me your bike is fine!
