Whats a good first motorcycle for a chick?

I was thinking in the 1k to 3k price range and preferrably a sports bike but if you have any better ideas let me know. Thanks:)

Personally I would stay in the 650 cruiser range. Once you get some experience and decide to upgrade then go for the sports bike.

I recommend that anyone that is just starting to ride not get a sport bike to start off with. You could start off with a small honda shadow or something similar and that would give you a much better feel for riding and balancing a bike. Once you have enough experience then you can go up to a sport bike but I really would not recommend getting one right now. You should also see if there is a motorcycle training course in you area. These classes are not like the drivers ed they will actually put you on a bike and will help you pass your license test and most of the time insurance companies give a discount for it as well.

Good luck and be safe!

Pending on your weight and the weight of the bike. you need so much to stop at a speed that you are following someone. I tought my X wife how to ride , but i made her take a cource to learn how to be as safe as could be. and she showed me a couple of things from the cource. LOL. but on a bike there is no chance for mistakes. Oh to answer your question i started my wife at a Honda 650 and she weighted 120 pounds.

All the answers are true but I was also told that when looking to buy a bike keep one thing in mind. Pick a bike you are able to pick up when it is laying down if you can't pick it up you shouldn't ride it.
Iam not saying you are a bad rider but everybody will have to pick up their bike at one time or another.

I'm still riding an old (1981) Suzuki GS450T, which was my first bike. It's just a plain old cycle, and other bikes, up to 850s have come and gone, but the little 450 has always stayed with me. It just feels right, and has plenty of zoom when I want to go fast.

I suggest starting with a smaller cruiser-style bike, and ride that for a couple seasons, before jumping on a sport bike. The shorter wheelbase and touchier powerband and controls of a sport bike can make learning to ride more difficult. After you have a few years of experience you can trade up to the sport bike of your dreams.

I strongly second Josh's recommendation to take a rider training/safety course. The instructors will teach you the skills needed to ride safely and confidently, under most of the conditions you are likely to experience. Without a ton of a car's steel wrapped around you, your abilities and knowledge will play a big part in keeping you upright on two wheels.

Lastly, and most important, while out shopping for bikes, get yourself a good, properly fitting helmet and a leather cycle jacket. These should be purchased BEFORE the bike.

Have fun, but ride smart and safe.

sports bike in the 1-3k range? Well, first you want to consider whether you will be happy with a small bike (250 ninja for example) for a length of time. There are a lot of good reasons to pick smaller bike: gain familiarity with the controls, handling and balance of the bike. Any bike you buy will need to be comfortable for you to fit on, with both feet planted at a stand still. This is important not to buy too big a bike.

Cruisers usually have a lower seat height, but different seating position. forward controls for a beginner are probably not a great idea. (It changes the balance a bit, cornering is different.) I personally would start with something between 250-650 cc, and get something cheap enough that if you want to upgrade you can afford to do so. My first bike was a '83 440LTD (kawi), good learning bike--enough but not too much power, and really cheap to buy.

Also take a motorcycle safety course-good way to become familiar with different bikes, (they usually have their own), plus you will get discount from insurance, and training for the DMV test. Good Luck

the back of mine??? ok, sorry.
try kaw ninja 250 for the sporty or a honda rebel 250 or yamaha virago 250. they're small enough to learn on and if ya drop it you won't cry about ruining your bike.

I think a Buel Blast is an excellent First Bike. Their very inexpense ( Used) and user friendly. Several of the local Motorcycle education classes use them and they take a licking and keep on ticking. their great lightweight commuters. My friend rides one 70 miles round trip each day. They look like a SportBike and their a HARLEY. Every motorcyclist dream.. ( Regardless what they tell you) Good Luck, Ride Safe, Buk

If you have any common sense(some answers infer you don't) you just pick the bike that fits you the best. Since you are in charge of the throttle and brake, power should not be a problem. The one you feel most comfortable on should work.(as long as the motor is big enough)
Good luck in your search!!!!!!

I strongly suggest watching the video below, pick the one that says "What a new rider should know and buy".

My boyfriend recently got a Honda Rebel. It's a 250. I think it would be an excellent starter bike because of it weight. I'm a very short, small girl and it was just fine for me. Not to heavy to pick up.
