What is a good beginners bike? |
About me: 20 years old, 165 lbs, 5' 10", have had drivers license for over 4 years with no accidents or tickets. I will be using this bike to drive around town mostly, a little freeway use, and maybe to go to my parents house once every few months about 300 miles away. ninja 250 Any early- mid 90s Shadow 750, Nighthawk 750. Do yourself a favor and spend a little extra money and get something newer than 1000 large will buy. Lots of choices here for you. The newer the bike the less hassles you'll have. At these prices you won't be in the market for a H-D so stick with a metric (Japanese). Biggest bang for your buck and regardless if it's a Honda, Kaw, Yammy, or Suzuki all will be stone cold reliable. Just find one you like...color, style, etc... After you've ridden a while you will have an idea about what you really want and THEN go buy a new one...*wink* In the $1000.00 range you will probably have to go with a used bike to meet your needs. For around $3400.00 the Yamaha Virago 250 would meet your needs but exceed your wallet. China is importing a Virago clone that you can find from $1700 to $2400. These bikes are badged with varied names like Lifan, Tank, QJ etc. I own one of these little quarter liter cruisers and love it. It rides and handles very well, will give you an honest 60 to 80 MPG, will do 75 - 80 mph and they look like a million bucks. Do a little research to find a dealer in your area and spend some time on the internet asking questions. Here is the forum I belong to and you can get pros and cons as well as a ton of advice and ideas, all from guys and gals who already own one. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lifa... Because these are Virago clones you can get your parts and service right from your local yamaha dealer. Good luck in your search, I hope this helped. In the $1000 range you will get a junker that will be good for going around town, but might overheat on a 300 mile trip. suzuki 650 and below used are really good bikes and can be easily repaired. My hubby rides his on the track and street. I can not count the falls and repairs or even the miles, but it runs great . We have a 2007 SUZUKI GZ250 that my wife started out on , cool cruiser look and it is what the biker safety school used , The HONDA REBEL ,and the YAMAHA VIRAGO , both are tiny good if you are 5'0 and 100 LBS. |
