Bicycle weight loss question????? |
If i ride a bicycle 3 miles a day 5 days a week off on weekends. About how much weight could i lose? i am trying to concentrate on my stomach by trying to lose a little bit of the gut i have gotten since i have quit playing sports. Is there any techniques i can do to focus on this area while trying to lose weight or is this possible to do on a bicycle? If you burn more calories then you take in you will lose but you will probably need to aim for more then a few miles. Go for 30-60 minutes & try to gradually increase your speed. Check out bodyforlife.com I have lost almost 100 pounds by cycling & doin an exchange plan for eating. The faster you bike the more calories per hour you burn. Be sure to eat a snack right after your done. well, that is a great start, but it is not really enough time and miles to make a noticeable difference you need to ride almost daily for at least 30 to 45 minutes, and raise your heartrate to a fitness level The amount of weight loss will depend on your diet and intensity of your ride. To lose any significant amount of weight, you'll have to ride more than 3 miles a day. Figure at least 45min to 1 hour every day. Although great for overall fitness and cardio workouts, cycling probably won't do much to specifically target your abs. Sit ups or some other ab workout would be best for that. Bicycles are known more for being a great workout for your legs and butt, not necessarily your stomach. Any exercise will burn fat all over and make you lose weight, though. 3 miles is a good start. you need to work your way up to more and more miles every day. you will have to do hills and fast on the none hills. be carefull where you drive. start on the safe parts of your town and work your way up. this type of excersise will not target your ABS. Unfortunately, bicycling does NOT work your gut. you need a strong core to be an effective cyclist, but if losing your gut is all you care about then bicycling won't get you there fast. Instead of thinking about mileage, just go out and enjoy the ride. Yo may be surprised to see a 10-15 mile trip finished without much effort. You also need to use the weekends to RIDE, not slack off. That's when most cyclists get big rides in by going 30, 50 or even 100 miles. Work up to it, and remember that it's all about enjoying the ride. Sorry, Linds, but you need to eat a snack BEFORE you ride. You need fuel to use while riding, and the subsequent rise in metabolism is what burns calories when you're off the bike. Not eating for a ride will send you up for the BONK! Bicycling will certainly make your gut go away, and probably quicker than most other excercises. Core excercises will firm up the muscles, but won't burn the fat. In order to burn the fat you need to do 30 to 60 minutes per day (like Uncle says) _with_ you heart rate in a 'fat burning' zone - usually described as 70 to 80 % of max. No, no one here can tell you your max heart rate. You need your doctor to tell you that. The big gut you are sporting is simply a large fat repository. The muscle is underneath that. If you start stomach excercises, the stomach muscles will become nice a firm, but will still be covered in fat. Pay attention now, AN ABLOUNGER DOES NOT BURN FAT! Neither do crunches, or any other core specific excercise. Leg excercises than concentrate on the quads and glutes (stairmaster, running, cycling) are the best for losing weight. Linda brings up a good point - you have to burn more calories than take in. This is a simple law of physics. You will not lose weight if you consume more calories than you burn. At the same time, you need to balance. Don't cut your intake too much or you may cause other maladies (malnutrion, stress, exhaustion) which may cause more damage to your health than you are trying to fix. |
