What is a good beginners sport bike?

yeah i no im gunna get you little cocky people comin in here n callin me a squid, whatever i dont care jus dont waste ur time answering this then.

Find a 250 of some description (because you can have them height adjusted to suit), yes they are light but give you just enough power so you don't kill yourself on the 1st ride.
but it depends on where you live... VISIT your local licensing/registration office because they will be able to tell you what you can & cannot ride, what needs to be done to obtain the license, when & where you can ride, how fast etc.
(or you could call them or try the online area for your licnesing/registration)
Also go to the local bike shop & try the bikes in question (you will soon find what feels right & what doesn't) and ASK the salespeople all the questions your are asking here, because they will be able to show you & give the added info (then you can decide if a brand spankin new one is what you want or something 2nd hand that you can find online etc. Finally go for a drive to the local bike hangout on a Saturday or Sunday, and talk to all the motorcyclists about their rides; they will proudly show off their wares & tell you the pro's & con's as well as give you tips on do's & don'ts
Buy the right Gear to Keep you safe (your local bike shopshould have helmets, Jackets, boots, gloves, bags, jrider jeans(/riders pants) plus all the little stickers & add ons you could imagine not to mention all the differnet runs that will be happening)
Do all the course that are available for riding safe depending on where you live will depend on the name of those course
but most importantly "Stay Upright,Stay Safe & Have Fun"
i started out with a 500,4 months later upgraded to a 1000so i would have to say yama 600
a 600 yami/Honda,there easy to handle and really quick i would start at 600 and than work ur way up b/c I'll get great balance and comfortable with handling of sport bikes
If you're just getting into motorcycling, the absolute last thing you need is to be on the latest repli-racer 600. Modern 600s put out over 100 hp, and can be tricky to ride. Would you put a brand new rider on a bike capable of over 150 mph stock? I didn't think so.

If you were my friend, and I gave a hoot about your well-being, I'd tell you to get on a 2nd line, mid-sized bike (think YZF600 or Bandit 600), preferably used. You will drop your first bike, so I wouldn't discount an example for scratches on the fairing. An SV 650 would be about perfect, by the way. Twins are a lot easier to ride than fours.
I'm still a beginner also even though I've had my license for 3 years, and I would still suggest getting a honda crb600. That was the first bike I ever riden and it was fairly easy to learn off of. Its powerful, but not too powerful, and not to heavy neither so you'll be quick to get used to the handling.
I saw another answer to a similar question awhile ago, and I will paraphrase it, because I think its nearly perfect:
"get a beat-up, used bike that fits you (size-wise)"
My first street bike (in 1998) was a XS-11 - Yamaha - built in 1979. $900 got me a black beater that had over 100hp on the rear-wheel, crappy suspension and handling. Cheap insurance, and tons of power.
I dropped it, as any beginner will. It fit me (I'm 6 foot). It sounded great - it had a 4-1 pipe and a waaay-rich jet kit.
I learned how to ride on a bike that was old-tech, and it didn't cost me a fortune, and I learned basic bike mechanics along the way, because when you pay so little for the bike, you're not usually inclined to pay a shop $100/hr to fix it.
In summary, get something cheap! As a beginner, you will drop the bike, make mistakes. You don't want to be doing that on a brand new bike - do you? Save your money until you are a more experienced rider, and know what you want (maybe you will want a cruiser, or a long-distance touring bike).
I a not going to pick on anyone here, just answer your question with a question first.

Did you take the Motorcycle Safety classes?

If not, I would recommend taking the class before you pursue buying any type of motorcycle. Some classes use different brands and you just may find you like the one you learn on as your beginner bike. Now assuming you did take the class and you have some cash in your pocket, The Honda's and Yamaha's are great bikes, fast and will not eat your pocket out of house and home (though those speeding tickets may...lol), stay in the 600cc range since you get great speed and handling out of this little rockets. however for the really new beginner, I'd recommend the Buell Blast. Now if you have some serious cash you wish to part with and you do not care how big you go, I'd look at the Ducati's and Aprilla's. It is just a matter of choice and how big and how much you wish to spend.
