Can anyone tell me where to find a good salvage yard to buy a rebuildable sport bike. I am in NC? |
I am willing to travel to SC or VA. did you check the yellow pages ? :) just go under google, i have found things through google, or you can try ebay, and go under bikes, a lot of times salvage yards have stuff to sell, and they throw it on ebay. But you have to becareful since they might not have a title, it is a leget sale,of the bike, but the owner might be dead, or unreachable, and it is considered as abandon property. There are a few junk yards here in NC, but from what I've seen they are mostly full of clapped out goon buggies and stripped and wasted old street bikes. Anything worth rebuilding usually ends up at one of the auctions. If you have, or know someone that has a dealer license you can go and bid yourself. Beware though, this isn't the big 'secret' it used to be and prices are, IMHO, way to high for what you actually end up with. There are some shops that specialize in this type of thing though, buying wrecks directly from the insurance companies, going to the auctions, ect and then parting out or piecing together bikes. Try calling Dirt & Street Cycle in Rockwell, NC. 704-279-5975, talk to Steve Stirewalt. He is a Gas Gas dealer and has made his living for years doing what I just mentioned as well as exporting litre size sportbikes to europe. He might have something that will work for you. Salvage yards don't sell things cheap, they part things out so they'll bring in more bucks than it sells for whole. Buy from a private party. You'd be surprised what you can get for nominal amount of money. . neanderthalcyclesalvage.com |
