Short and want a Sports Bike? |
I'm about 5'3" and I am interested in a sport bike. My brother just bought a Honda CBR600F4i and I could probably drive it, but its a stretch to hold it up, deffinately not on two feet. I know that Kawasaki has their Ninja 250, but I was kind of looking for something with a more sporty style. Any suggestions? Would a lowering kit be best? You can lower the bike a little but it will affect the handling. You didn't say whether or not you already ride a bike so I'm assuming you don't. Find a good used small bike to learn on, a dirt bike preferably. Learn to ride it well and you'll learn you don't have to have both feet flat on the ground to hold the bike up. I'm 5'10" and have a Suzuki DL 1000 and it's so tall I can only put one foot down and I have to stand on the ball of my foot. It's all balance Darlin. If you decide to go straight to a sport bike go to all the shops in your area and sit on everything that flips your switch and some that don't. Take your time deciding and get your brother to help you get the feel of his sport bike while it's sitting still. Sit on it and balance it. Do it every day for a few minutes a couple times a day until it becomes natural. Good Luck You can lower any sport bike a few inches to make it more comfortable. You want to make sure that you can be flat footed on the bike when it is standing still. you can lower your bike slightly, but it will affect your ride. In MD you only have to have 3/4 of you foot down for it to be legal you can lower any sport bike to suit your needs just remember to either get a new kickstand or have yours cut and welded so the bike doesnt fall over your best bet would be to head over to a big motorcycle dealer that carries a few different brands of motorcycles and sit on everything that looks good. Your bound to find something that both looks good and is the right size. You might want to check out a Kawasaki EX500 (ninja). You can get lowering links for the Honda CBR600 & Kawasaki ZX600 Lowers the bikes up to 5" Front lowering blocks lower them an additional 2" http://www.pingelonline.com/lowering_lin... For a little lass who wants one of the most classic designs in a pure street bike, check out the Yamaha "Virago" 250. This is the only size Virago still in production; but it has a huge number of devout followers. It's perfect for you because it's slim, very well balanced, lightweight, and has one of the lowest seats (from the ground) of any factory bike. The Honda "Shadow" (in it smaller sizes) is another winner and just as dependable, but I'm not sure if it sits as low as the Virago. You'll be queen of the hill sitting on either of these two little beauties. PS, my avatar is me sitting on an '86 Virago 700SS. |
