What is the best sports bike to get?

hey ive just passed my bike test and want to buy a sports bike eg cbr,r6,gsxr e.t.c but dont know which bike to get what would be the cheapest from an insurance point of view(bare in mind im only 21) cheers guys!

Take the MSF-USA.ORG rider safety class. It will help to lower your insurance rates. Also, the instructors will have some good advice about "first bikes."
Please do not get a Gixxer or the R6 for a first bike. Even Valentino Rossi started on 125s, for gosh sakes. It would be a shame to end up dead before you really know what you are doing.
Aim lower, a 450-500cc bike is great to start with. Plenty of power for the highway, but not a crotchrocket that will tempt you to exceed your riding ability.
Be careful out there, and wear your helmet.
You've just passed your test and your 21, unless you're minted all of the above will cost a small fortune to insure as they're all around group 15. Try something like a Suzuki SV650 which is group 10, still a good handling quick bike but cheaper on the pocket an less likley to kill you. If you're intent on suiside i'd plum for the gsxr cos it's mental!
Go for GSXR 750, perfect balance of power & performance
Your in Britain so you have at least some idea how to go round corners. A lot depends on your experience level. Almost all the sport bikes feel like playing a video game but you don't get extra lives or replay. Are you going to commute at all? Sport bikes are no fun at all in traffic, too much weight on you wrists (and carpal tunnel decompression isn't any fun at all, even if it takes a few years to develop) Fairings and riding position don't work very well below about 80mph. I wouldn't recommend the North Circular in rush hour on one :), M25 was fun though ( til it got too many cameras)
Regarding insurance, the answer is pretty simple. The bigger it is, the more it will cost you.

Your best bet is to pick the bike you want and then comparison shop with insurance companies.

As to that process, here's a simple formula you can follow. First decide your price range. If it's under $10,000, you probably eliminate most of the Euros. Then decide whether you want to buy new or used. Personally, I would go with New on a sport bike, but you have to decide that for yourself. Look for a used bike that was driven by a little old lady - the same one whose Cadillac your dad wants to buy! JK.

Then you can either pick the one whose looks you like the best, or clothes your eyes, spin and point. Certainly there are differences, and you should read reviews on the one you choose, but really they're a horse a piece.

And THEN - get it to a parking lot and ride around for an hour or so to get a good feel for it before hitting the road.
IMO, The GSX-R 750 line is the best bike ever built...period. It is no coincidence that all the major manufacturers either have stopped building 750's or won't bulid one because they know that they can't compete with the Gixxer.Even though, there is no national level 750 production races, the 750 still continues to sell. For roughly $1000 more you get about 20 more horsies. If you wanted to build a 600 motor, you would spend far more than that. It almost weighs about the same as 600, too. It's also a Suzuki, so the motor is is built like a tank. Not only do you get more for your money, but compared to a 1000's, its easier to handle. You get the best of both world- 600-like handling, with liter-bike power.

But the real great thing about the 750 is that, if you are a good rider, when you are hangin or even faster than the liter bikes (around a track), it is a great feeling. There is much satisfaction about smokin' a liter bike on a smaller bike. And if they beat you --They're supposed to be beating you! ;) Its Win-Win bike.
The noggin.
