Anyone have any suggestions about a motorcycle? or have a roketa or any other small sports bike/crotch rocket? |
I am 18 and looking into getting my bike liscense, and therefore looking into a bike. I want a sports bike, not expensive, and smallish, I looked into those Roketa things. I dont care about speed (I do some pretty stupid things, and would rather not risk it). The Roketa bikes only go 75 mph, and look good as far as i can tell, but the back tire is small which looks funny. I am looking for any suggestions on the topic, if you have one, or dont... doesnt matter.... If you dont know what im talking about heres a link to the one im talking about on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/new-2006-... Depends on where you live. If you live in Australia, you will need to check whether or not your bike is on the LAMS list, if it is not on the LAMS list you CANNOT RIDE THE BIKE! http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/test... This list applies to ALL Australian Learners. Next go to your local licensing/registration office where you live and have a chat. Find out what will be required, where you have to go, what gear is required,(in Australia, it is LAW to where an approved AS1698 helmet, so make sure it fits properly) and do that. Good luck, stay safe, stay upright, and have fun. The Kawasaki Ninja 650R is an excellent beginner bike. Inexpensive at around $6400 new or get one used. They're light weight, quick and get 45 mpg. I got mine last year, it was my first bike and was perfect to learn on. It certainly has enough power to stay up with traffic, and then some. Tons of fun! http://www.kawasaki.com/products/detail.... Ninja owner Stay with the 600 sport cruiser category. You will be looking at 6000 new or a lot less for a used one. It is a very well balance between value, style, gas mileage, performance and insurance rates. My bike is a yamaha FZ6 and I think it is the best bike I have ever had, check out the Yamaha web-sites. I would recommend a BMW F650. This is a great starter bike and a great bike to keep riding after you learn how to ride. I started riding on a 99 BMW F650 I bought used in 2005. I have put over 5000 miles on this bike in two years which isn't much but it is great to ride. The top speed for the F650 is around 97 to 98 mph. I know because that is where mine wouldn't go any faster. The fuel mileage is average at 40 mph and the bike should last over 100,000 miles with proper care and maintenance. New rider... sports bike... bad idea.... the smaller sports bikes may not go very fast top end, but most of them have a lot of speed off of the line... If you do go with a sports bike, don't go bigger than a 500 to start and depending on the model, even that may be pushing it. And please...please don't do what I see so many people doing on motorcycles.... helmet (YEA) tank top, SHORTS and SANDALS road rash hurts and there are 2 types of riders. Those who have dropped a bike (OUCH from experience even at 30mpt) and those who will drop a bike. i have been riden both Harley's and Street (crouch rocket) style bikes. Personally use to own a 750 GSXR. Too much torque so i got rid of it. They are nice but with you being a new rider i would suggest to go smaller around 600 class or possibly smaller. The one guy who recommended the 500 Ninjia is right. The Power is there but not as stylish as larger 600's or as fast. One thing, fast is dangerous even if for a second or so. You must keep your eyes in many directions at all times. Many rides can contest to this. As soon as you feel confrontible on the bike is when it will get you. Most of the time it's the other idiots out there that don't look for you. The other guy was right. Road rash hurts. Buy leathers with plates and i hope your state has a helmet law. |
