I would like to convert my sports bike from drop down handlebar's to ordinary straight bars what do I have to? |
do to do this and what bike would match a Suzuki GSXR 250? Your bike sounds like a mid 80's early 90's model , which wasn't sold officially in the uk, but quite a few made it over here when imports became popular. If it has conventional front forks you could look to convert it with parts from another Suzuki of the era, i.e, GS500 , GSF250/400 Bandit etc(ebay has loads of spares that may help), but if it has USD forks, you will probably have to buy an aftermarket kit such as LSL's (mentioned elsewhere). Watch you dont run into problems with fouling bodywork, stretching cables and wiring though. Buy a magazine such as Streetfighters for ideas on how other people have done similar conversions and companies advertising parts to convert it . Good luck, hope this helps. 1) Buy new handlebars, brake cables and accelerator cable 2) Fit them. take it to a cycle shop they r usualy quite cheep and very helpfull For a comercial kit, look to LSL Superbike Conversions: http://www.spieglerusa.com/cfm/sbk.cfm... If you want to do it yourself, look for dirtbike bar mount kits (like this, this is just an example, there are ALL kinds on eBay all the time): http://www.brpit.com/pages/products/bar_... This will require you drill holes in your top triple to mount them, but that's not really a big deal. Then you can choose any kind of bars you want. Depending on how high you go, you May need a longer front brake line, clutch line or choke cable... but you'll just have to see what's required. Parts are cheap, labor is fairly simple, and I'm 100% certain that 99% of the shops out there will rip you a new one if you ask them to do all the work for you. How about getting a pair of clip-ons that adjust taller? With straight bars you'd probably get into problems with them contacting your bodywork. Here's a link to some adjustable clip-ons. http://www.1tail.com/sa/c/woodcraft_race... GenMar risers and clip ons are popular for raising the bars, I've used them on two separate bikes: http://www.zianet.com/GenMar/ http://www.zianet.com/GenMar/ |
