Modern Vintage Bikes - Ducati Sport 1000 or similar? |
I'm a new rider and like the idea of vintage bikes. Upon research I found there are some companies that still produce these styles. I like the Ducati Sport Classic 1000, But is that bike a difficult bike to ride as a first rider? It has a pretty harsh forward lean and it is a 1000cc. I also found the Royal Enfiend Bullet. However it appears these bikes may have some mechanical problems since the model hasn't really changed. Does anyone have any opinion on these bikes. And also any other recommendations? I would be open to older bikes but I don't want high maintenance and also would hope to find something easy to find. Thats why I was thinking of a modern vintage bike. Thanks. The 1000 is probably too much machine for a beginner. The Royal Enfield (if a real Enfield) suffers from the curse of poor electrics, but is otherwise a real nice smaller bike, plenty of go for the city but not really designed for superhighways. There is a knock-off Enfield being made these days that looks cool, but is prone to mechanical failure. I would recommend an older 500-650 cc Japanese bike for a "learner" machine ... you'll discover that it has plenty of power, and you won't feel so bad when you drop it the first time. After you've been riding for a couple of years, then look to move up to your dream machine. Cheers. Source(s): 30 years in the saddle, now riding a 1978 BMW R80/7. Vintage rocks! Seems you want the look and not the hassel. So the aforementioned ducatis, triumph thruxton, moto guzzi v11, for new models. gb500 honda arnt made anymore but fit the bill, I'm sure there are others, but theres a start for you. have a look at some of the triumph bikes, and i believe that Suzuki make a 650 classic style bike. |
