Bike demographics? |
Recently moved to NC. I have yet to see a black guy riding a Harley down here. And I see few white people riding sport bikes. The demographics are extremely polarized. Does anyone else have a theory on this? If this question is offensive, please let me know, and I will remove it. I'd say it's a reverse racism thing. Most Afro-American individuals associate Harley's with red neck, pick-up driving , Budweiser drinking, coon hound owning ,Honky Mutha's. This being said, the broad image of Harley is not conducive to the image most blacks choose to project. It is only the most liberated and secure black man or woman, that rides a Harley with no racial stereotype attached. Source(s): A Euro-American individual. Your question is not offensive but assures the rest of us that racism is alive and well. I doubt that most observers of motorcycling take count as to which bike is favored by which race. Check your calendar. This is 2007, not 1967. I've only been a biker since 1966, so I guess I'm new to obseving other bikers. I always thought a biker was a biker. The exception being a biker on a Harley with other Harley riders present. Then, by choice, that biker chooses to exclude himself as a biker, he's a Harley rider. So, as you observe other bikers, what is your reaction to a guy riding a bike, neither sport or Harley? He wears a reflective face shield and gloves and long sleeves and pants. How do you classify him? Do you wave? Hide? If you're along side of him at a light, how do you know which acknowledgement to display? After more experience you'll discover that a biker is just that. I'm of Italian ancestry. Have you observed that most Italians ride bikes with names ending in a vowel? That's so logical. thats not racist there are cultural differances, most black guys prefer sport bikes and when you do see a brotha on a harley its usually a full dress hog wit all da bells and whistles.I only mess wit black women and really hard to get THEM on da back of a bike. Might mess up dat weave!!! I had a brotha driving a harley once that said he was a chromasexual. I thought that was funny. What you see is the same in Texas. It's OK to observe things people. Geeze. brothas like to stunt bike too, take that into consideration...and they are young. Harley (expensive bikes) are older, white, and sometimes obese. that's one reason you see them on hogs. I haven't really noticed that sort of thing but up here in my little corner of the Great White North. What I've noticed is a an overwhelming majority of old farts (50 +) all trying to recapture their halcyon days of youth on hogs & crusiers. All you hear around town is the putt-putt-putt of these bikes and I'm sure that sales of viagra & geratol have gone through the roof. BTW I'm an old fart that went the other way I ride a sport/touring bike, at the daily saltmine there are only two sport bikes in the lot the rest of them are cruisers or hogs. |
