Ain't sport bikes a bit uncomfortable on the long trips? |
I do not know from experience but it looks like the possision you have to sit on it is more for racing? Yeah. But there are ways around it. 1. If you are short enough, you can stand up on the pegs to stretch out, every now and then. You will be leaning forward, when you do this, but the wind will hold you up. I have travelled several miles at a time like this. I'm 5'11" and just a hair too tall to do this on a cbr600, comfortably. If you have longer arms or are a couple inches shorter, you could do this :) On the VFR this was a great option for me on long freeway drones, and the cops never stopped me for this. 2. When you get into <45 mph traffic/roads, some of the carbeurated bikes can be put into "cruise control" by thowing the choke open in 3-4 gear. Now let go the bars and sit back and give the bike an occasional nudge with your knees to stay on course. 3. If you can reach your idle adjustment while riding, which can be tricky, you can jack it up and use as cruise control for higher speeds. This is not that helpful, though, since you can't sit up with no hands due to the wind.... but you can give the right hand a rest for awhile. This is somewhat dangerous if you need to stop in a hurry, cuz you will probably have to hit the kill switch. I don't recommend this one, though I have done it. An aftermarket throttle lock is a better idea. 4. If you are really short, you can dangle your legs, every now and then. The wind will push them back a bit, so's you don't destroy your shoes. 5. With some padding, you can lay on the tank and prop your feet on the passenger pegs. Without any padding this hella hurts your shins, though! All of these alternatives (with the exception of the choke deal) are of questionable comfort, in and of themselves. The idea is to have a few ways to change from the standard riding position, which will quickly drive you mad. Just please be careful if you decide to try any of these for yourself. They are all potentially dangerous. :) Number 1 and 2 were my favorites. I also liked to combine them at low speeds: since the wind won't hold you up at the lower cruise-control speeds while standing, you can hold onto the windshield and stand str8 up. Sport bikes aint designed for long trips!! Yes, a bit uncomfortable, This is why sport tourers exist! But it does depend a lot on your size, the details of the bike, and the speed of the trip. You actually want to be leaning into the wind a bit - especially at higher speeds. The fun in the corners makes up for a lot! yes,I have owned lots of them and they are not for long trips for me,some folks like them ok,but I prefer the BIG engine bikes for trips,Now I am using a 1800cc honda vtx As a rule yes. however I find the GSXR 1000 very comfy. Try a sports tourer (Honda blackbird, Triumph Sprint or Kawasaki ZZR1400) exactly you dont know They really arent that bad. I have an 07 ninja zx-6r and it is pretty comfy. the only thing that starts to hurt after awhile is the wrists but there are things that can help you with that. |
