Where in Mumbai can i buy imported bikes, can i import a sports bike, please can someone tel me the procedure? I am not too sure about India's import duty but I investigated this from Trinidad. The procedure is: 1 Find, import agent. They will clear the bike through customs. You probable can do this yourself but the agent will know the procedure. There may be a motorcycle store who will do this also. 2 Find shipping company. I use LAParkin in Trinidad. The Import agent may recommend one. To ship a bike it has to be put on a crate and boxed, then placed inside the container. You can normally arrange for the shipper to do this. 3 Locate bike - the Internet is the best way to do this. It might be best to locate bike stores close to the shipper that will deliver the bike to the shipper. Payment can be difficult, credit card can work, but dealers are wary of scams. For delivery of the bike to the shipper the dealer will have to remove all oil and gas. Easy, but expensive. Include shipping costs + insurance, import taxation, bike registration fees on top of the purchase price. Secondly, make sure that the local fuel is of a good quality and that there is available expertise to fix and repair the bike. Sports bikes now have very complex engine management systems that require sophisticated computer software to diagnose running problems. If this is unavailable in Mumbai you can expect a whole load of trouble with running the bike. |
