I am turning sixteen years old, and i want to buy a motorcycle what is a good first sports bike? |
What does shiting mean when they say 1 down 5 up? and how do you down shift and are there any automatic bikes? OK, the guy above was pretty good at describing the shift pattern. Let me add this. If you are going to get a bike, figure into the cost of the bike THE COST TO LEARN TO RIDE IT! Please, please take a course. I've been riding for 20+ years, and it saddens me to see young men buy a bike, get on it, and kill themselves. I mean that. Dead. So, I'm giving you the website to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation below. Find them in your area and TAKE THE CLASS! As for your 1st sport bike, honestly, I'd rather see you start out on a standard. But, if you're really bent on getting one, here are your options: 1. Honda VTR 250: Honda stopped making this in 1988, but, they can be had for a decent price, and they are usually in fair shape. Plus, you'll probably drop your 1st bike at least once, so they're relatively cheap to repair. 2. Kawasaki Ninja 250: This is still being produced today, and is the only 250 sport bike in production 3. Suzuki GS500F: Great starter bike. Slightly more power than the Ninja, but not so much that you'll get yourself into trouble 4. Buell Blast: Another super-durable bike. They also built in the 'cheap' factor. Nearly everything on the bike is replaceable for very little money. They designed this bike to be someone's 1st, so they thought out what the bike and the owner might go through and kept repair prices cheap. Lastly, buy safety equipment. Don't be a squid and ride with a wife-beater, shorts and sandals. You'll look stupid, and it'll hurt real bad when you fall off. ALWAYS wear helmet, gloves and boots as a bare minimum with at least jeans on. There are some very nice mesh jackets with armor in them for summer riding. Please - do not get on a bike until you have taken the course and have th proper gear. Source(s): http://www.msf-usa.org/ if you dont know what that is get a bicycle If you are medium built look at a Honda Rebel. A little larger bike is the Shadow. Shifting. Neutral is between 1st and 2nd gear. So from Neutral you have to take the foot petal UP to get to first. Then to shift, 2nd is just under neutral then 3rd, 4th and 5th going down. Honda has a large scooter called the Helix and it has an automatic transmission. Others may also. Whatever you end up with, just remember you are not protected in any way except by what you are wearing. Be VERY careful and NEVER trust anything or anybody when riding. NEVER, NEVER trust a person to NOT pull right out in front of you. Good luck. Pops My thoughts shifting is very easy once you get the hang of it. one down five up refers to when you pull in the clutch you click the shifter down once for first gear, and then slip your foot under the shifter, pull in the clutch and click the shifter up for second gear and repeat for additional gears. then to go back down you pull in the clutch and click the shifter down once for a lower gear. it will become built into your memory once you practice, i recomend learning on a small dirtbike first to shift. its like riding a bike you never forget and its quite easy Listen dude, you're only sixteen, how in the world can you think that you could drive a motorcycle, and besides if you can drive it, you will regreted one day. |
