I just bought a new bike and some issues have developed. HELP!?

I bought a Diamond Back response sport 20 inch with disk brakes and 24 speed, but the front disk brake is starting to show some rust when i haven't even done much wet riding. Also, I don't know if this is a common problem with bikes but my derailleur isnt shifting that well. Like when i'm shifting up and i want to be on gear 7, the chains still on 6th gear. Also, my bike chain slips every once in a while and it shifts up by itself. Is my derailleur problem and the rust on my disk brake because my bike is defective or is the rust normal and i just need to get the derailleur adjusted?

The brake rotor will develop some rust if you don't ride it all the time, but it shouldn't happen so that it's obvious or create a problem with braking. It should be no more than just a light, almost dusty coating. If it's worse than that and has left pits, you probably have a cheap rotor made of lower quality steel. Check with the shop you bought it from for a replacement if that's the case.

Shifting issues are common after a 'break in' period. The cables stretch and things need to be tightened up.

Most bike shops offer a free 30 day tune up. If it's after 30 days, you'll probably have to pay for it unless the owner is really cool and the shop isn't hurting.
Dude sounds like you have a mess for a pretty decent bike..

Rusting disk break; You are going to have to grind it off with steel wool or something just be easy on it.

Shifting; Make sure you are pressing completely when shifting... when I first started biking I thought there was a problem with my derailer but I just wasn't pressing the derailer in enough to get into the last gear.

Derailer shifting on it's own? Yea it just sounds like it needs to be adjusted..

Bring it into the shop you bought it from they should fix the derailer for free (as long as the place gave you a good warranty.. some places offer 1 & 2 years of free adjustments.
The bike should have warranty. Return it to the store where you bought it for a refund or exchange. Call them first about their return policy, they may direct you to the manufacturer.
dude, rust is not normal in a bike. Sounds like you're not cleaning the bike, not lubeing it, sounds like you're not adjusting it, not maintaining it....

If you don't oil your car regularly it doesn't work, right? Same with bikes, they require regular maintenance. And you must clean your bike properly after a wet ride.

Get thee to a local bike shop and get the bike cleaned, lubed, adjusted. Then read up, maybe Zinn and the Art of Bicycle Maintenance

hi!
if your disc brake rust, maybe its not a real one
you see. disc brake will not rust even if it got wet
check out with the local bike shop and find out what's happening
as for your gear, i had experienced it before
i don't know if its the same. but mine will make lots of noise when shifting the gear and sometimes stuck.
i went to the bike shop and get it repaired
the problem is that the back gear(with 8 speed) have got problem and need to be replaced.
mine is 6 speed and i spent about 30SGD
about 20US dollars to get it repaired
same problem happened before.
