What bike should I buy ?

I have been riding for over a year now I have a zx636 a1p 2003 next year I finish paying for it and will be chopping it in or just selling it to get somthing else. The reason is, I need a bigger bike for me and the wife that's not to say I want a sports tourer or anything like that, I just want more grunt I have been looking at a aprillia RSV 2000 - 2001 model. If anyone has any ideas it has to be somthing that isn't to expensive too service etc or buy i'll have around 2,600 pounds to spend . oh it's got to be sports orientated or somthing extra cool (like a speed triple)

Aprilia Falco...RSV engine retuned for more midrange grunt...handy because thats where you need it.....comfortable and brilliant handling/braking etc

I had mine chipped, airbox de restricted, larger rear sprocket, alloy cans, wavey front and rear discs.............was a brill bike. Sold it against a Suzuki RF900R....The suzuk is more comfortable for an old git like me!
anything thats not made in China, it rusts after 2 months !
I've just bought a 2000 Triumph Tiger and am well impressed with it (same engine as the Speed Triple ) My mate has an Aprilia Caponord, which is a similar 'touring trailie' (Same engine as the Mille, I think) and his wife says the pillion is more comfortable than his VTX1300 used to be! He also has the full Givi Box/Pannier set which is removable and had ample storage for both of them. Neither bike is particularly mainstream, but they're both worth a test ride. (Oh, you need to be over about 5'8" though ;-)
You are going to get a million and one opinions to your question and I would simply suggest that you take a trawl around the dealers to see what is available and then try to find a better private buy.

I own Italian bikes and love them but you say that you want cheap servicing, so that pretty much rules them out in all honesty.

Believe it or not I have a couple of mates who take their missus out on runs on the back of their Fireblades, though to me the seat looks like a postage stamp. Depends how adventurous your wife is I guess.

Your budget is not huge, so may restrict you a bit but why not take a look at the big Yamaha's - FZR, Thunderace that sort of thing? No harm in looking at the used Triumph's also, you may uncover something suitable.

If you want oomph then you could also well look to see if you can rustle up an early Blackbird, Hayabusa or ZZR but your budget may be a bit low. Don't think that they are not sports oriented either - yes they can tour but they can handle it in the twisties with the best of them, especially two up, unless you are some kind of riding god.

Best of luck
I've had three triumphs - two trophies and a Sprint RS. All have great low down torque. All have been excellent to ride - but the second trophy (look as though they were styled by Rover) was top heavy at slow speeds. Luggage and comfort are excellent. For sports-touring the Sprint ST would be good.

On my first trophy I was able to keep up with sports 600s - without having to adopt a bum-up position.

On that basis, not having owned a speed triple, I'd say the Triumph would be fine. If you have plans for serious touring (Scottish and Alpine roads are great) then I'd go with a Sprint ST.

Have a look in the RiDE magazine survey for a collection of views from a large sample of riders. Remember that surveys are not perfect.

The other thing to consider, if you've been riding for a year, is advanced motoring. You'll learn some useful stuff and improve your riding (it's not all about stopping for zebras and pelicans).
Riding since '75
well, it sounds to me like your looking for a yamaha virago (1200 or 750) i suggest the 1200, much more grunt, much more noise and alot more fun!, if you go to a dealer he'll tell you loads of balls to try and sell you somthing like a harley D, (screw that!), they are quite expensive in the first place, never mind what it costs to run and repair.

i've had a virago 750 for about 9 months now, there really reliable, low on fuel and high on fun, they cost very very little to service compared to more popular bikes, and have great style, very very sensual verticies and above all quite economic!

jeez, i sound like a sales man, i hate those guys

either way, if your lookingfor somthing like you described above, the 750 can cost from 拢1100 to about 拢2500, (with mot and tax) and i can guarintee you'll have fun.

p.s. they are not sports bikes
