Zx-14 or zx-10 or R1? |
OK..It's my first bike. Im 26, and mature. I have no interest in top seed or going 150mph. I do want a sport bike, the looks, the sound, and performance appeal to me greatly. I know they are fast and alot of bike for begineer, but I plan on taking it slow and learning to ride it. I took a harley out for 250 miles, had no problems. Big difference in the 2 I know. The zx-14 is big, and I am big, therefor it feels very comfortable. Zx-10 and R1 are about the same comfort wise. Is buying the 14 just stupid since im new? Is buying the 1000 stupid? Like I said, im looking to ride, not wheelies and 150mph. These are the only bikes im interested in, so am I going to be ok? People don't buy Harleys for performance. Same thing goes for many of the people that buy hyabusas and zx-14's. I think it's a status symbol more than a performance bike. I have seen plenty of hyabusa's on the street, and I have never seen any one of them doing wheelies or burnouts or even speeding. Honestly, you don't tell someone that they shouldn't buy a BMW 750 since they don't know how to push a Civic to the limit. If you want a big bike, buy a big bike. The ZX-14 is a fine sport tourer if you have the build to handle it at low speed. And driving for what, 10 years, gives you the maturity and experience to not kill yourself. If you were 16, I would say hell no. I, for one, would never ride a 250cc to it's FULL POTENTIAL, cuz I value my skin. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the throttle response, performance, and handling of a bigger bike. BTW, I started out on a 500 lb VFR 750 (on a small island with all curving mountain roads, 80 foot drop off on the side, and I had zero problems with it and nothin but good times. And what makes you think a 600 will fit him better? I'm average build and I feel a bit scrunched up on my cbr600. And to the last comment.. what a joke. No one sells a zx10 cuz they are intimidated. It is a superfluously great ride at all speeds, as are most all inline jap bikes. There is nothing intimidating about it, unless you ARE trying to push the limits... on a track, I hope. What makes any of you "experts" think that all people who buy a bike are intent to squeeze out all the performance out of it - especially when they expressly say the opposite? In fact, to even suggest that YOU DO have the ability to do just that.. on the street... makes you pretty damn irresponsible.. and wrong. Riding sport bikes/sport tourers for 7 years and no accidents. And sure, a 600 will handle better thru a corner.... but he just said, he doesn't wanna race the thing. Does anyone here read? I can count the times I have reached full throttle on my bike on the fingers of both hands. Just cuz you have a fast bike doesn't mean you are going to push it to the limit. Does anyone think people buy a 20,000 harley Fat Tail to push the limits? get the zx6.. get the r6.. they all look near identical, and you won't have the throttle snap of the liter bike. Moto gp riders could barely squeeze all the power out of a 600 to its full potential on the street. Trust me, i love liter bikes.. but a 6 will do you just fine. Don't be superficial and ignorant and say you want a liter bike cuz you're manly. I've had them all. Shadhouse, their dynamics are the same. they can't outhandle a liter. and don't say that you aren't comfortable on a 6.. they are the same size 9 bikes deep Reconsider your options. If you have no interest in 150+ or top speed, then why do you need one of these race replica cannons? For under 150mph, even a ZX-6 or R6 will do you just fine, with lower cost and a MUCH smaller insurance hit. Keep in mind that the considered opinion of most of the motojournalists in America is that current sportbikes (most especially the liter class, but even the 600s) have significantly more capability than the great majority of riders. At your skill level, performance differences will be undetectable--go with the one that feels most comfortable. That said, and with your insistence on grabbing one of these tigers by the tail, be certain your health insurance (prolly thru your employer) will cover injuries sustained while motorycling. You'll need it. For the record, I seriously doubt you'll "be ok" with one of those as a first bike. Dude, A 600 will out handle a 1000 I ride a 600 I am a big guy and if I even think about opening it up I am well over the speed limit. Don't make a mistake, a lot of beginners make! Go with something around a 600... Yes you might want a bigger bike later, but at least you can say you learned the right way... Many of these bikes look the same, but have less power... Which would be ideal for you right now... Go somewhere, sit on a few if they let you, and you will see that some of them feel that same as those of the liter bikes... I have met very few people that are actually able to ride a 600 to its FULL potential. Most importantly look into taking a MSF course in your area... You will defiantly learn a lot about riding and the things that go into it... And I'm sure after you are done, you will have changed your mind on the type of bike you are wanting/ feel comfy on... Good luck! And ride Safe! Busa Owner CBR track bike |
