Who made...?

who made the first sport bike and what year?

I was still riding RD350s back then and I remember when the Interceptor came out.
As far as in the U.S. the interceptor was it. I belive it was the following year Harley 84 ,came out with their 1000 canyon racer. Source(s): Slight revision, in 1979 Yamaha made an edition of the RD400 Daytona Special with down bars and rear sets. That may be the first production sportbike.
It depends on how you define "sport bike" In 1983, Honda made a street-legal version of their AMA Superbike --the VF750 Interceptor. Many people think this kicked off the modern sport bike craze, meaning race bike technology and performance you could enjoy in a street bike. On the other hand, people started racing motorcycles as soon as people started building motorcycles. So you could say a 1903 Harley was a sport bike!!!
I would say the V-Max.Yamaha I think
No no no.

It was the 1976 Honda CB400F Supersport. I'm so sad I sold mine.
Well, its certainly hard to argue against the Honda intercepter, but, I have also heard others say that the GSXRs beginning in 86 were the first repli-racers??? Used to be up till then each manufacturers big gun was the fastest thing out there trading off year after year CB750-900-1100 CBX1000 or KZ900-1000 or GPZ1100 or XS1100 or GS1000-1100 then from the mid eighties the smaller bikes started being faster than the heavy weights.
Interesting question. I agree that virtually ever since they started making bikes there were models around that were designed for "performance riding" so could be designated as sports. Indian, Harley and most of the British and European major manufacturers had a go. There were plenty of fast and light machines. Anyone with a serious knowledge of bikes would argue however that the king of these prior to to 1960's was the Vincent Black Lightning. The bike was serious cutting edge design for its time and at 100bhp was at more than double the horses of most other bikes made to date. The standard speedo went to 150mph and one was ridden to over 185mph. So if you if you define a sports bike as one that will seriously scare the **** out of you this was the grandaddy of them all.
