Motorcycles for teens? |
I am 17 years old and I want a sport bike with 50-100cc's. Any suggestions on where to find one? I got my first bike when I was your age, a little 2001 Buell Blast 500cc. Bike had a few problems such as leaked oil, hard downshifts, etc. There was no way it could do a wheelie, though, and it handled and braked like a dream. In my opinion, they'd run you about the same price as a Ninja 250, and are much safer bikes to learn on. Plus, with the low seat height, you're not really reaching for the ground. After getting good at the Buell, I moved onto a 85 Honda Sabre 1100, and now I'm getting a 2002 Ninja ZX6-R. It doesnt matter how fast the bike is, as long as you ride responsibly and safely. Start with a low power bike, though, because you're gonna be curious, and you're gonna lay it down at some point. inevitable fact. The smallest sport bike I have seen was a 250cc. That being said...Teens kill themselves easily enough in cars. DO NOT buy a Motorcycle. Your mother will be sad after you are dead. She will be angry if you get crippled and she has to take care of you for the rest of her life. Good luck! Please reconsider the sportbike idea. First thing you should do is take the safety course. It'll extend your life, believe me. THEN if you're still interested get a little bike, cruiser/standard type. A little putt-putt. After you've gained some experience on that, THEN you can consider a sportbike. Try the Ninja 250 or 500 for starters. And finally, when you've got that down, then you can consider a "real" sportbike. Seriously, we know what we're talking about! www.msf-usa.org Try a dealership.
