Which type of riding gear? |
The mesh sport bike riding gear seems smart to me; it is cheaper, cooler, and has all the armor. Is the mesh as good as leather, better, worse? Please let me know because I am tempted with the price to get some, but feel I must be missing something because it is so cheap why hasn't it replaced leather? Thanks! Only downhill mountain bikers and freeriders wear armor. The rest of the BICYCLISTS wear close-fitting clothing to wick sweat away and prevent chafing (or baggy stuff on the trail). Bicyclists used to use leather for the chamois in their shorts, and synthetic leather is used often in seats, cycling shoes and gloves, but that's about it. To answer your question, mesh gear is only good for ONE minor fall. The armor may keep you from breaking bones, but you will still get road rash and need to get new gear (if you survive). If price is an issue, then get textile. It's still FAR better than the Squid Uniform of helmet, T-shirt and Vans. Leather can be crashed over and over, and fits better than "three sizes fit all" mesh does. If coming out of a crash in one piece is more important, then leather is a good investment. Now that you know, post in the proper category and get full gear. please post in the proper category this is Cycling, as in Bicycling not Motorcycles |
