Is it true that knn air filter or any other air intake filters are not for air cooled bikes?? |
i have a 150cc air cooled bike that has a 14.4 bhp and is able to get 117km/hr speed!! i was planning to get a knn air intake filter .... but my ppl here say that these high intake filters are only meant for heavy sports bike !!! is it true ??? would appreciate ur help ! thnx Here's the dealio.....internal combustible engines are virtually Air pumps that burn fuel. The more air you supply the more fuel you can burn, thus the more power you can generate. Having said that everything needs to work in concert to get the most out of the engines capacity. K&N's or other hi-flow filters are just one componet to the mix and generally speaking to add just the filter you may not see any or little benifit unless your under hi heat or dusty conditions that would allow your hi flow to suppercede the stock capacity as it exsists. Hi-flow filter, Carb jetting or injection remapping with exhast tunning gain you the total package you seek. Typically we call this a Stage One upgrade.Just changing the filter will get you a washable fliter with a bit more flow but it will not hurt your engine nor give you 10% HP. When you get a high capacity air filter such as a K&N, you must also either rejet your carbs or remap your fuel injection, as well as get aftermarket pipes for REAL gains.... Im thinking the problem here is that this 150cc bike you have is generic and putting a K&N on it will not be worth the costs associated with it... But, if you dont mind spending $60 -80 for an air filter, then needing your carbs rejetted, then go for it....you might get one more horsepower.... If you want more low end speed, you need to change the gearing... ohh bull put it on just rejet for the increaded air flow harleys are air cooled and they use them someone is telling you the wrong info There may be some that will not accept a K & N Google the K & N and ask them specifically about your model and year Being air-cooled doesn't mean you can't fit a K&N air filter. I do that for my commuter, just so I don't have to keep replacing the air filters as opposed to simply cleaning them out, as you are able to with K&N filters. If you're doing it for the power boost, I'd suggest getting a bigger bike instead. As mentioned above, it isn't worth the money for the miniscule hp boost you're unlikely to feel much of anyway. |
