Which motorcycle should I get? |
I like the sports bikes (R1, ninja, cbr, gsxr) that type but I am probably only going to use it for weekends or for fun, randomly here and there not everyday use. I dont know if the 600cc is big enough for me I am 6'2" and 200lbs, I wouldnt mind getting one with an engine that small as long as its big enough for my body. performance wise I just want to feel connected with the bike and it to have good turning and intuitive control, speed isnt really a great big deal as long as it can beat most cars. so I dont know if I need a 1000cc. It has been almost 10 years since I owned one and would like to get back to the fun hobby I enjoyed. I had a ninja ex500 over 10 years ago I liked, except it broke down alot, but Im older and bigger now. I like the flashy styling of the sports bike even though I would probably just use it to go on exploration trips. Does anyone have a good idea about what I should get? I dont care if its a few years old either somewhere in the '01 to new range i would stay away from used sport bikes. the kids ridding them don't take good care of them. go with a Harley or buell the will give you plenty of power and since you are older you will look much better on a harley for sure!!! They often feel okay for 15-30 minutes, then the back pain hits. traderonline.com has tons of bikes, you should be able to research prices there. Visit local dealers to get used to makes, models, sizes & prices. Because motorcycles are usually a 2nd vehicle most are low mileage. Starter bikes, around 350-650cc range, are common & cheap as people step up. Don't buy too small, you'll outgrow it inside of a month. Here is a oft forgotten fact, in the early 1980's there was a Jap bike glut in the market, a CB650cc 4cyl Honda, good all around machine, could go out the door for $1,000. now many of those machines are in garages with under 5k miles on them. Generally they can be had for under $900. but may need tires, battery & carb clean. But you'll have a good ride cheap. Honda CBR600RR is the way to go. Its a good, reliable bike that has the speed and torque that you want. It sits a little higher than other sports bikes, so it should fit you well. motorcycle rider all my life |
