Crotch Rocket term? |
Just a poll. Is the term crotch rocket a positive name for sport bikes. (Rockets are fast and cool.) Or negative towards sport bikes. (Cheap, uncomfortable, rice burner, cereal box bikes..etc.) I've heard the term used both ways. They are ugly plastic crap no matter what you call them. call em what you want...my friends and i ride everything. sport bikes, cruisers choppers, customs, ect. we call em crotch rockets, pocket rockets, or just plain old reliable. my son who is 8 already knows the difference between a bike that is always road worthy and those that are not. he refers to harley davidsons as oil squirters...a term he thought of all by him self...i am so proud....honestly it doest matter what you or who you ride, what matters is the fact that you ride. two wheels are cool...no matter what the make. keep the rubber side down, and your knees in the breeze. Evan, believe it or not,you have answered your own question. Been ridin' for 38 yrs I allways thought crotch rocket was a positive name.Any lowlife that tought my CB750F was a crotch rocket keep that crap to them self. I see it as a derogatory term. A Massachusetts state legislator recently coined them "bullet bikes". I find that equally as offensive. They make it seem like it's something that just takes off on it's own out of control and you're just hanging on for the ride. it first started when Kawasaki came out with the 3 cyl. 2 cycle 500 cc H-1 it was called the nickle rocket (for 500cc) because it was as quick on the strip as the 850s Norton's & 900 harleys then when they made the3 cyl 2 cycle 750 H- 2 it was even faster it was the first crotch rocket after that when honda & kawasaki came out with 4 cycle750 & 900s that were almost as quick the name was just applied to any fast jap bike. for some reason its never been used for european or american bikes. |
