How safe is motocycle riding?

i mean fast sport bikes like r6 and gsxr600 k7...

Those are the ones that young squids kill themselves with. Old geezers like me kill themselves with heavy H-D tourers.

Los Angeles Times reports 40 deaths per million miles, which works out to one death per 25,000 miles. I've ridden about 125,000 miles, so, just for me, there are five guys who didn't make it to 25,000.
its not motorbikes that are unsafe (if ridden with confidence!) it bloody car drivers and silly women in 4x4's doing the school run who are the danger!
Well, in my opinion, it's safer than downhill skiing or parachuting out of a perfectly good airplane. Of course, the motorcycle is only as safe as it's rider wants it to be... If you do stupid things on a motorcycle, you're going to get hurt!
45+ (mostly safe) years of motorcycle riding experience.
If you're new to motorcycling, you will fall off and hurt yourself no matter what you ride. It is a rite of passage to real motorcycling. There are too many idiots on the road, in cars, trucks, vans, and to lesser extent on other motorcycles to avoid this. Experience will make it safer, but the only way to stay safe is not ride at all.

Having said that, if you really want to get into riding, you should start with the mind set that you will crash and damage the bike and yourself. You should start with a used bike, no more than $1000, something that doesn't have plastics to break, and ride like a puss for a while. After you crash few times and mangle that bike (and yourself) and still feel like riding, you should move to R6 (or better yet, Bandit 1250).

In the process, you will learn how to survive, such as making a pre-run pass on canyon roads to survey for dirt patches before fun and staying off the center of the lane at traffic lights. Unlike a car, dirt / oil patch while turning or trying to stop on oil patch (usually center of lane) will cause you to crash. There are many other things you need to learn, such as proper clothing and causes of crashes.

In competent hands, 30 year old $500 bike (RD400) will blow the pants off R6 or GSXR600 in not so experienced hands. You should do all your preparations on a cheap bike.
Motorcycle publications since 1979 + Hurt report + personal experience.
Motorcycle riding is safe if you respect it and not act a fool. people do not watch for motorcycles anywhere. Go take a motorcycle safety course: they will show you what to do in different situations.
