The Laws of Neon lights on Motorcycles? |
Im buying a motorcycle thats all black because it only comes on black and another weird color and its a sports bike but i wana put neon lights underneath, on the tires, and around the engine and all that so i will stand out more at night while driving (for safety reasons) but are all of these illegal to have on while driving? what can i do to stand out more during the night to other cars so they can see me and not ram right into me? An excellent question! I have done my homework here too although I rarely ride at night. 1. You can get inexpensive lighted valve caps that are motion sensitive - they come in different colors. As you ride, the blinking light becomes a solid line of color. See link for example. 2. You can purchase sheets or strips of reflective adhesive that you can use to accessorize your bike. I bought some "rim tape" that is reflective, and they also sell decals for your tires which are reflective too. If you buy sheets you can cut them out in designs of your choice. 3. There are tons of reflective decals you can buy for your bike and helmet. 4. You can purchase a reflective harness. 5. Reflective clothing - or just add reflective decals or patches to them. 6. There's a product you can buy which will not only cause your taillight to flicker/flash when your brakes are on, but you can find some where you also put a strip on the back of your helmet and it will flash as well. 7. The obvious - brightly colored bike, brightly colored apparel and helmet. Hostel, The best things you can do to enhance visibility to cars are to add a strobing, LED rear brake light array (super-bright!), Sylvania Silverstar headlamps or xenons, and LED or regular bulb running lights for front and rear. As to the neon, every state has different reg's and laws regarding them. Do a Yahoo search to find each state's bike reg's on them. 13 years riding experience. If you are that worried about getting "rammed" into,,, don't bother getting a motorcycle,,, get a friggin' hummer. If yer on a bike, u oughta have the talent to ride defensively, maybe you oughta stay on yer ten speed, and the sidewalks. Have some CAJONES! |
