Would it give cyclists more character if all the pack got the time of the LAST bike crossing the line?

i am sick of 20+ slackers all getting the same good time even when some cross the line 1 1/2 minutes after the cyclist in front of the pack. if cycling gave all the pack the time of the last cyclist to cross it would cause the average cyclist to (oh my God) actually try to win or maybe pass somebody. why show up if you won't try to win? is this a sport or adult kindergarten?

The only ways they could get the same time is if it takes 1-1/2 minutes for the pack to cross the line or if they are in the lead pack and a crash mid-pack holds up the rear. In that case it doesn't matter how long it takes you to get across the line to keep someone from being penalized from getting caught up in someone elses crash.
Also consider that many of these "slackers" are the guys that pulled the pack across the course at 25 to 30mph all day. That's their job.
I guess if you're really sick of this you could do a breakaway so you'll get a gap on the entire field. If you can do that do won't need to worry about who got what time and how much character they have.
In most cases if they are still in the pack it is because they have stayed there for 50 to 150 miles. If you have not competitively raced, and I have and do actively race now, you have no idea what you are talking about. Go race and then you will realize that the current method is the best. The first to cross even though the riders all have the same time get a bonus which reduces their time when the whole process is complete.
