How much travel should I have in my motorcycle's forks.?

How much travel should I have in my motorcycle's forks. I have a 2000 suzuki bandit and I think the forks feel soft. This is my first sport tour bike so I have nothing to compair too.
Thanks friendds.

look for some screws (flat-head) that are marked with a dot on them. Either top of forks or somewhere near the bottom (depending on brand, some have both). These are for your compression and rebound dampening. You can slow the travel when compressing or when rebounding. Hopefully they will actually have "clicker" increments so you can keep track of how far you are turning them. Start by counting the clicks clockwise 'til it stops, and remember that number as your benchmark. tighten to slow it down, loosen to speed upi the travel.
A Fork? If it's not broke don't fix it. Thats like asking in my car how often should I change my
chassie.
