What's a good first sportsbike?

I'm 22, 5'4 150lbs. I've taken the beginners course. And now im ready 4 a new used bike. I was thinking about a Honda cbr600. Any suggestions? Looking for 600cc, nothing bigger. With good handling. And no i won't start with a crusier or a sports-touring bike. Thanks

I'm thinking that you already have a good plan.

The 600cc bikes are all similar in performance (at least at the level you intend riding), so it is basically which is more comfortable and the style you like.

I am partial to Japanese bikes, but there are some very nice European ones also. Ducati especially has some nice bikes in my opinion.
that is definetly a very good choice. go for that one! you won't repent.
deffinetally go with the Yamaha YZF R6 it is the best handleing, and looking bike for its money, and it is an excellent beginners bike, plus it is very upgradeable if you want to make it cooler, or faster
Carefull With the Honda, they are pretty agressive but they are a good bike.

You can't go wrong with a Suzuki SV 650.
Naked or "S" series.
They have great power, they're lite and handle very well.
Plus there are alot of them around so you can pick one up for a reasonable price.
See it all the time......Ive done the beginners course & now Im ready..................... personal exsperience tends towards the statement.."another CBR600 going to the wrecking yard"

& if your not a speed demon & poping wheelies.....whats wrong with the sports touring bike???(or even the cruiser) if thats all you want to do.....( YOU SAID IT)

But I digress...now to the Question...all the recent 600cc sports bikes are very similar....so if thats what your buying ...any of the japanese bikes will fit the bill...

you may want to look at the Ducati or Triumph as well,,gives you the same sort of performance & handling,& are a little more exotic............(they tend to have a better resale value as well for when you want to trade up).........
35 years riding & counting.......

Ths older I get ....The faster I was..

LMFAO
I suggest a suzuki SV650s or similar.. they steer well, stop well, and have less chaotic results if you stuff up your line or braking a bit. if you're still new to road riding, then a true sportsbike may end up hurting both the wallet and the body.. assume the worst of every car/bus/truck driver you encounter. the power, steering geometry, and brakes on a 600 sportsbike (i.e: CBR/GSXR/ZXR etc) are simply unforgiving if you're not used to using them in different conditions..
