What is a self-sustaining, multicultural feminist? |
I met this women who claimed to be all of this. She said she grows and harvests all her own food, even using her sewage for fertilizer. She claims to be a multiculturalist since she accepts all forms of ethnic groups and their beliefs. She got on my case since I tend to fall into the traditional role model of a lesbian (I like softball and I am a member of Dykes on Bikes, even sporting a mullet). I think she is whacko, personally. What do you think? Sounds like an uber hippie. It's okay though. Everyone fits into some kind of category. People catagorize, that's what we do. By saying she's a "self-sustaining, multicultural feminist" she is still putting herself into a social group. Ironic that she claims to accept all cultures, yet she can't accept yours, don't you think? Yep, she is definitely a whacko. On the other hand, mullets look bad enough on guys.... even worse on women. Well, if it works for her, live and let live. Eventually she may come to find that she just can't live as well without modern technology. Self sustaining means that a person can raise their own food, collect their own water, collect solar power, etc. In other words, they are "off the grid". They do not depend on any municipality for services like water, electricity,etc. A Multi-culturalist is a person who enjoys/interacts with/appreciates people from diverse cultures. I know several families here where I live who are self-sustaining. They're rightfully very proud of their abilities, since it is no mean feat to do this. Your friend may very well be both a Multi-culturalist and self-sustaining. If she puts you down for your lifestyle, though, she is neither a good friend nor an ethical person, since Multi-culturalists are supposed to support ALL cultures and lifestyles. She's a bit hypocritical to say the least. Good luck |
