ZX6E and ZZR600 owners? |
Guys, Im thinking of getting the old ZX6E model (sold in usa its last few years as the ZZR600) as a cheap sport touring mount. I need to know if anyone uses this as a Sport Tourer and if you do take in on long rides then how is the vibration in the handlebars? I am getting older and having problems with my wrists so I need to know how this bike does on the long haul. Oddly enough, I have owned one before but it was around 12 years ago and I never took it on really long rides, so I dont have a good memory of the vibration in the bars. Oh, and I know the alternatives to this bike (older VFR, YZF600R, etc) but the ZX falls into my price and comfort catagories. I just need to know about vibration. Any help would greatly be appreciated along with any links you may have to reviews of this model. I am familiar with ZX6E.net and the Sport Rider review. Anything else would be great. Thanks in advance. Well, first off, are you sure the ZZR600 is the same as the ZX6E? I believe the ZZR600 is basically the same bike as the 2000-2003 ZX-6R. Kawa has a newer faster bike, but the ZZR600 is still pure sportbike. The ZX6-E is a much heavier and lower tuned bike. So don't confuse the two bikes when you are negotiating cost.... cuz the 6E is a much cheaper bike! Having owned a VFR, I can vouch for the comfort. But even on that bike, I would get the old tingling in the hands/wrists when ridden on long trips more than a couple hours. The kawa is known for a smooth engine, but the key is "what does it do at highway speed?" If it buzzes a bit, you can try dropping the back sprocket to lower the rpm at highway cruising speed. You will also save some gas this way. I'm pretty sure that any 600cc inline four will be pretty mild when it comes to vibration, compared to most other engine types. But the bikes with the least vibration will be the BMW's or Honda Goldwings with the boxer engines. The boxer is the only perfectly counterbalanced motorcycle engine in existence. the ZZR600 is the old ZX-6R, not ZX-6E |
