Why do men tend to gravitate toward violent activities, and why am I an exception? |
I consider myself a regular guy who enjoys doing fun stuff like riding my bike, listening to music, drinking beer, playing pool, checking out girls, and other things normal guys like doing. However, I never got into three things that are generally associated with masculinity: hunting, violent video games, or physical contact sports like boxing or football. Why does it seem that I am the exception to the rule? When I see a bunch of guys get together to watch a sports game I don't feel any desire to join them in their sports-worshiping revelry. Or when my friends go hunting I never choose to go with them and don't care to hear about their hunting stories. Also, while I like some video games I refuse to play the more violent ones because I find them too brutal and offensive for my conscience. Are there any other ordinary straight guys like me out there who aren't obsessed with violent pastimes? There's nothing wrong with that at all. My boyfriend is like that as well. He doesn't care for sports, in fact, I watch more sports than he does. And he's not into video games, violent or not. Nor does he hunt. It's perfectly normal that you're that way. So, don't sweat it! In fact, I find it a turn on that he's not turned on by sports. hehe I think men do that as a display of how "manly" they are. In this day and age you can't pick fights with people to show that you are stronger than they are, and thus, should follow you, who is the leader now. The dominice thing. So they pick other ways to show off how tough they are. Mostly now, they are just showing off for other males, cause now adays..most womens could care less about all that. ^_^ Yea.... they all joined the Coast Guard There's nothing unusual about that. Not all men are stereotypical males in every possible way. You just don't like violence. There are plenty of us who don't. You're not "the" exception, you're "an" exception. For the record, I don't like sports, I don't hunt, I do play some mildly violent video games, but not for the sake of violence. I don't fit under most of those stereotypes at all. i hate watching sports, but love playing them. i love to get dirty. i don't drink heavily, and i am not violent. i do use violent video games to work out my frustrations so that i may be more collective. i don't even get as much thrill checking out the ladies as most guys. so not everyone falls into every part of the stereotype. some women love violence just as much as guys though. A real man does not injure anyone else; with the only exception being self-defense or defense of others. There are many men who reject the phony toughness that society seems to require. Being a woman, I'm not sure I can help besides to give you a few things I've found out lately. My fiance is very similar. He isn't violent, into sports, or gruff and manly. This is not a bad thing! We've come to the idea that this is negative. Over the past 30 years, estrogen has taken over our water supply because so many women use it and it gets passed through the body into the water system. I have seen reports about estrogen effecting both physical and mental attributes in men. It's nature taking course biologically as far as I can tell. |
