Is MotoGP getting boring? |
Does anyone else feel the same? I have just finished watching the Brno GP and feel very let down, and I feel that the sport is heading the same way as F1. I think we should go back to basics and let the riders ride the bikes and not the other way round. Cheryl, you are spot on. I have going to GP's for more than 20 years and was at Brno yesterday (I go every year) and it is the first time I have EVER seen people leaving early. There was a steady stream with still about 8 laps to go. I love Moto GP, I ride Ducati's myself and like Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi too, so what I am saying is not a ***** in favour of any one camp but I think that the tyre rule has not helped really. Moto GP is about proto type machines at the edge of the envelope being ridden by the best riders. I see no reason why they should not just let them have all the tyres they need. I 100% commend Bridgestone for what they have done and Michelin have really dropped a bollock but there is no two ways about it - this year the tyres are having too much influence. It can't be about cost, this is bloody expensive racing anyway and if it is an issue of that then they tyre companies should foot the bill themselves - the ultimately benefit with increased sales. I think that Casey would still be in the position he is, even if the old tyre rule was in place but not by a country a mile and the races would not be the processions that they are turning into. It is fantatstic to see some new challengers for the title but I do worry that Casey's title will be questioned by some who will say that he could not have done it on Michelin or Dunlop. It is actually undoubtedly true that he would not have the lead he does, thouh as I have said I think he would still be right up there as he has adapted to the 800 so well but this a bike race not a tyre war. The scenes of people leaving Brno early really got me thinking and I had exactly the same thoughts as you - is this in danger of becoming like F1. Edit - Gooner. I have been going to Brno for years and there has been in excess of 100,000 there for quite a few of them and believe me they never leave like they were yesterday. It was a sad sight. I have been to live GP in Czech Rep, Germany, USA, UK and France and seen nothing like that. I wish it was not that way but yesterdays was a dull race and there can be no getting away from that fact. Im not sure what you mean by getting boring? It is just the same, the only thing I find a bit not so much boring, but predictable, is when the same people are on the rostrum. There is only so many times you can watch Valentino Rossi win for exampe without it becoming a bit predictable. I still like watching it however and find it MUCH better than F1 as I dont find there any talent in that as it is only won on how quick pit stops are etc. There isn't much overtaking or talent shown in my opinion. Ive always preferred Moto GP to Superbikes, but I think it does depend who is racing. For example, ive always like James Toseland and I believe he is racing fror Moto GP next year, so things should be a bit different I hope. Yes I agree that this particular race was rather boring, but like all sports I am sure it will become exciting again. Boring... Hmmm I think you have point in saying this. But if you take a look you'll see that the 125cc race is still as interesting as it used to be (I even posted a question about this). The thing is that we always know who's getting first and... Maybe I feel this way because of the disappointment but it's true that nowadays it's not the riders who are riding the bikes. I hope next season, when Lorenzo comes and Michelin do something about the tyres, the whole MotoGP will be back to normal! :)) Boring!!!! No way, never boring while Stoner continues to lead on that Duke. Didnt ya see that big stack with the guy goin over the handle bars???Thats not boring. People pay money to see that stuff. Ya not tryin hard enough if you dont come off.... But I kinda do Know what you mean, it is exciting when they are neck and neck on the last couple of laps. But I suppose the aim is to get out in front as far as you can, and thats what Stoner is doing well at present. Getting boring? With all the young guns hitting the front , not to mention the Aussie young guns :-) stoner is just riding amazing and i love watching Vermulen up there along with Westy! This year has been a great year for us Aussies so i don't find it boring at all!! |
